Sophie Turner bares her abs as she joins Tomb Raider co-star Martin Bobb-Semple outside the British Museum while filming latest scenes as Lara Croft

The filming of Sophie Turner’s new Tomb Raider movie has already included intense scenes like knife fights and physical altercations, so it’s no surprise she was taking a break on Tuesday evening.

Gemma Turner will be taking on the role of Lara Croft in a new Amazon Prime series. She’ll be following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who previously played the adventurous archaeologist.

The 30-year-old actress has shared a sneak peek of her take on the famous character with fans of the franchise, which began as a video game series in the 1990s.

Filming was already going smoothly when she posed for another photo, this time with her co-star Martin Bobb-Semple in front of London’s British Museum.

I spotted the actress on Great Russell Street today! She was all bundled up in a cozy quilted coat and seemed to be enjoying a little downtime, chatting with the film crew. It was a nice, relaxed moment between takes.

Turner still wore Lara Croft’s signature cropped vest, showing off her toned abs while getting ready to film new scenes.

After finishing his scenes as Zip, Croft’s sidekick, 28-year-old Bobb-Semple dressed sharply in a tuxedo jacket and silk shirt.

Turner is taking on the famous role previously played by stars like Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, and she’s been preparing for it for over a year.

Speaking to ScreenRant, she said: ‘I can’t say much, but my preparation began in February [2025].

I’ve been training for almost a year, and filming will begin in January.

I’m thrilled and well-prepared, and I’m grateful for our strong partnership with Amazon. I can’t wait for everyone to experience what we’ve created with Lara Croft and Tomb Raider – I believe it will be truly remarkable.

Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Jack Bannon, and Celia Imrie are all set to appear in the upcoming series.

The cast faced challenges during filming, and Turner specifically dealt with a recurring back issue while preparing for her physically demanding role as Lara Croft.

During an appearance on The Julia Cunningham Show, she explained that they’ve been training eight hours a day, five days a week, since February of the previous year, which has been a significant commitment.

I recently found out I have an ongoing back issue. It’s also been a slow process getting in shape, because I hadn’t exercised before, and building muscle takes time when you’re starting from scratch. It’s taken months of work to finally feel good.

Sophie Turner is famous for her role as Sansa Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones, but she says her time on that show didn’t help her prepare for Tomb Raider. She explained that she never did any action sequences during her years playing Sansa.

She explained that she always considered herself above that kind of drama. She was usually the one getting hurt, not the one causing it.

‘So, it’s quite nice to learn how to throw a punch and not just take it.’

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for her role in Fleabag, is the creative force behind a new project. She wrote it, developed it, and is also an executive producer.

In September, she revealed that Sophie Turner would be playing Lara, expressing her excitement about working with Turner and the rest of the talented team.

‘It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving.

The whole team is incredibly enthusiastic about Lara, and they’re just as daring, funny, and bold as she is. Prepare yourselves – Lara Croft is on her way!

This series, based on the popular video game, will chronicle the exciting journeys of archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft.

I’ve been a huge fan of Sophie Turner ever since she burst onto the scene with Game of Thrones – that Emmy nomination was so well-deserved! I really enjoyed her recent work in the ITV drama, Joan, and the film Trust was gripping. I’m already excited to see what she does next in the British series, The Dreadful; she’s such a talented actress!

The actress shared her excitement and nervousness about taking on the role of the famous archaeologist, saying, ‘I’m incredibly excited to play Lara Croft.’

She’s a truly memorable character who resonates with a lot of people, and I’m fully committed to doing my best.

It’s a challenge taking over after such incredible performances from Angelina and Alicia, but we’re confident in Phoebe’s leadership. Both Lara and I believe we’re in good hands, and we’re excited to share what we’ve been working on with you all.

As a lifestyle and entertainment insider, I’m hearing that Jenna Ortega was the top choice for this role! Apparently, she impressed the casting directors more than Mackenzie Davis, Emma Mackey, and Lucy Boynton – The Hollywood Reporter shared the news, and it’s exciting to see who ultimately landed the part.

This new series has a powerful team of producers behind it and is expected to be one of Prime Video’s biggest releases to date.
