Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas finalize divorce after custody battle turned contentious
As a movie lover with a soft spot for celebrity gossip and a keen interest in the ups and downs of Hollywood relationships, I find myself both saddened and intrigued by the news of Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas‘ divorce. Having followed their love story since its inception, it’s bittersweet to see them part ways. However, as a fan of their individual talents, I’m excited to see what they will each bring to the table in their future projects. It seems they are both moving forward, and that gives me hope for new, captivating performances on the big screen.
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are officially ex-spouses.
On Friday, in Miami-Dade County, Florida, the divorce of the actor from “Game of Thrones” and the pop star from Jonas Brothers was legally finalized. Judge Gina Beovides ruled that the marriage had reached an irreparable state and approved a private settlement between the two celebrities.
On Wednesday, neither Turner’s or Jonas’ representatives provided a response when contacted by The Times for comment.
Turner, age 28, and Jonas, age 35, concluded their divorce process, which began five years following their marriage in 2019, and about a year after a disagreement over the custody of their two minor daughters escalated.
In September 2023, Jonas submitted divorce papers against Turner, claiming in court documents that their relationship was beyond repair. At the initial filing, it was stated that they aimed for joint custody of their children. Their first daughter was born in July 2020, and two years later, they had a second child.
They announced jointly, through a statement in September 2023, that their divorce was a mutual agreement to halt rumors about the reason behind their separation. They emphasized that this decision was made together and requested everyone to honor their desire for confidentiality during this time, particularly for their children’s sake.
But weeks after the stars presented that unified front, things got tense.
Turner filed a lawsuit against the singer known as “Sucker,” claiming he illegally kept their daughters in the U.S. She is seeking to have them returned to England, where they were originally from. Court documents reveal her lawyers are using the 1993 Hague Convention on International Child Abduction, which deals with such incidents, to support their argument.
In October 2023, actors from “Dark Phoenix” and “Camp Rock,” reached an interim custody arrangement. Later that month, Turner and Jonas chose to keep the details of their separation confidential. Earlier this year, Turner requested a judge to withdraw the child abduction case against Jonas.
After wrapping up our shared journey down the aisle, it appears we’re both diving headfirst into our individual ventures now. As for me, I find myself immersed in the intriguing world of “Joan,” an ITV1 series where I bring to life the captivating character of diamond thief Joan Hannington.
As a movie buff, I’m right now hitting the road alongside my buddies Nick and Kevin Jonas for their global tour extravaganza! This week, we’ve got some exciting gigs lined up across the UK – can’t wait to rock out with the British fans!
