Sophie Rundle’s ITV crime drama to return with season 2
As a dedicated fan who has followed Sophie Rundle’s captivating performances since her days as Ada Thorne in “Peaky Blinders,” I couldn’t be more thrilled about the renewal of ITV’s crime drama, “After the Flood.” The first series was a gripping tale of mystery and suspense that had me hooked from the very first episode.
Sophie Rundle’s ITV crime drama After the Flood has been renewed for a second series.
In January, the initial season featured the “Peaky Blinders” actor portraying police officer Joanna Marshall, assigned to investigate the mysterious death of an unknown individual after a catastrophic natural event had occurred.
ITV has officially announced that the series After the Flood is coming back for an additional six episodes, with production slated to start in and around Greater Manchester and Derbyshire next year.
In the upcoming sequence, we’ll delve into the story of detective Jo Marshall who’s been recently promoted. Her focus will be on unraveling yet another murder mystery.
Amidst the building tension in Waterside due to the increasing danger of moorland fires and potential additional flooding, an unusual corpse is found.
Jo’s pursuit of the killer will lead her into conflict with powerful, shadowy elements within the town. This investigation will delve deeply, becoming intensely personal, and may even uncover secrets buried in the town’s police force and Jo’s own family for many years. To succeed, she must work covertly.
In the upcoming series, Rundle is set to return to her character as the primary detective, working with Philip Glenister who plays Jack Radcliffe. Additionally, Lorraine Ashbourne takes on the role of Jo’s mother Molly, Nicholas Gleaves portrays Sergeant Phil Mackie, and Matt Stokoe joins the cast as Jo’s husband Pat.
I’m really excited to go back to ‘After the Flood’ for a new season, working once more with the terrific cast and crew at Quay Street Productions,” is how Rundle described his feelings about the show’s renewal.
I’m eagerly looking forward to beginning this new adventure and discovering the next enigma that Jo, now an official detective, will unravel.
Executive producers Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee expressed: “Featuring our terrific cast and the exceptional writing by Mick Ford, we’re thrilled to provide viewers another chance to delve into the characters’ narratives once more as they tackle a fresh murder mystery central to season two.
After the Flood airs on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
