Sophie Rundle and Lorraine Ashbourne’s divisive crime drama gets new cast ahead of return

The crime drama titled “After the Flood” starring Sophie Runde and Lorraine Ashbourne is announcing new actors joining the cast now that production on its second season is starting.

The ITV series, announced for another season last year, features Sophie Rundle (known for her roles in “Peaky Blinders” and “Gentleman Jack”) as PC Joanna Marshall. In this role, she’s committed to unraveling the mystery behind an unidentified corpse that surfaced after a devastating flood struck her Yorkshire community.

In the upcoming season of the show, Lorraine Ashbourne (known for Bridgerton) will reprise her role as Molly, Joanna’s mother, and Nicholas Gleaves will join the cast as DS Phil Mackie, a comrade of Joanna’s deceased father Brendan.

Fresh actors are slated to appear in the upcoming series, among them Alun Armstrong, Jill Halfpenny, and Ian Puleston-Davies.

Among the fresh faces joining the show are Matthew McNulty, Oliver Nelson, Roger Morlidge, Lola Brown, and Tony Marshall.

Although details are still pending about the specific characters the new cast members will portray, a brief overview hints at Jo Marshall being challenged with an intriguing and puzzling murder case.

In the town of Waterside, as the dangers of moorland fires and potential flooding due to tension escalate, an unusual death case comes to light.

Jo’s pursuit to catch the murderer leads her into confrontations with powerful and sinister elements within the town. This investigation, which becomes increasingly personal, will push her to work covertly if she’s to uncover the long-standing corruption that has tainted the town’s police department and her own family for years.

The initial season of the show drew mixed responses from critics. Some admired the intriguing village-set whodunit drama, but others found issues with the show’s convoluted storyline.

In Digital Sppy’s review of the first series, we stated: “If you approach it lightly and are willing to go along with some of the less plausible turns that ‘After the Flood’ attempts to lead you on, there’s fun to be had.

The second season of “After the Flood” has not been given a specific air date yet, but you can watch season one right now on ITVX.
