Sophie Ellis-Bextor shared that she and her partner don’t believe in having strict rules when raising their five children.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor, age 46, and her husband Richard Jones have five children: Sonny, 21, Kit, 14, Ray, 11, Jesse, 7, and Mickey, 4.
Sophie recently shared in an interview that with so many children, it’s difficult to enforce rules. She also mentioned that her oldest son currently lives with his grandmother.
She described her approach as being a facilitator of communication. She frequently asks those involved to consider the situation from a parent’s perspective. They prioritize open discussion and avoid strict rules, preferring to address things as they come up.
Even with everything going on, Sophie explained that her children are good at managing their own behavior. She emphasizes having clear rules and wanting to raise them with strong values, especially kindness and a sense of independence. She believes it’s important for them to learn how to prioritize and handle the pressures of school and exams.
I want my children to feel comfortable, secure, and supported by each other at home. I’m strict about maintaining that kind of environment because it’s very important to me.

‘But I’ve had too many children to be a strict parent – I’ve realised that is not a value of mine.’
Sonny, age 21, recently moved in with his grandmother who lives nearby, and Sophie supported his decision to do so.
She told The Telegraph that they’ve always shared a very close relationship and that she was living alone before Sonny joined her.
Sophie recently realized something about parenting after sharing that her younger children are being teased for their red hair because they stand out from their peers.
On her Salon Confidential podcast, she shared that bullying is something her clients have definitely gone through, and it’s been very difficult for them.
When you start high school, any unique characteristic you have will likely become something people make fun of.
It’s amazing how much young people want to fit in and be accepted by their peers. It’s a very powerful, natural feeling.
Instead of letting this get you down, talking about it can help you manage the situation and stay positive.

As you get older, you realize the qualities that once made you different are actually worth celebrating and focusing on. You start to embrace and enjoy those unique parts of yourself.
My children each have slightly different shades of red clothing, which is lovely – and it makes them easy to spot when we’re at the playground.
Oh my gosh, Sophie is a GENIUS! I seriously lost it when I saw her TikTok yesterday – she totally roasted those ridiculously extra influencer morning routines. It was SO funny, everyone is saying the same thing! She just gets it, you know? All my friends are obsessed with the video too – she’s the best!
Lately, many social media influencers have gained popularity by sharing their extremely early morning routines, often beginning their day before 4 a.m.
People followed various routines, like splashing their faces with ice water, sleeping with their mouths taped shut, and working out before the sun came up.
She poked fun at some of the shocking routines she has come across on her social media.
She captioned her post: ‘I’ve been up for hours.. what about you? #morningroutine’
