Fans are disappointed to learn a highly anticipated remake has been cancelled, and this is just one consequence of a beloved game studio closing down.
Game designer Maxim Foulquier recently shared on Twitter that he received a legal notice from Sony concerning his fan-made remake of Bloodborne. This happened shortly before the announcement that Sony was closing Bluepoint Studio, the team working on remakes of several popular games.
Sony Shut Down Bloodborne Remake Game Before Closing Bluepoint
Foulquier was really enthusiastic about this project and dedicated a lot of his free time to it. However, he received a letter (shown here) that led him to change course. Instead of continuing with the original project, he decided to use everything he’d already created to build a new game set in a world of his own, drawing inspiration from Bloodborne. He intended to share the letter once the new game was ready to be announced.
“Things have unfortunately changed,” Foulquier went on. “I’d prefer to address this now, because I’m deeply disappointed. The cancellation of Bluepoint is a huge loss for the gaming world and, specifically, the hope for a Bloodborne remake. Sony, why are you making these strange choices? Is this really happening?”
PlayStation has officially shut down Bluepoint Games, the studio behind the remakes of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls. In a statement to Bloomberg, a PlayStation spokesperson praised Bluepoint as a highly skilled team, thanking them for their dedication, innovation, and quality work for PlayStation fans.
Approximately 70 employees will be impacted when Bluepoint Games closes its doors next month. Despite creating popular collections and remakes for PlayStation, like those of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls, the studio’s current project was unfortunately canceled by Sony in January 2025, leading to this closure.
Man, I still remember when Bloodborne first came out on PlayStation 4 back in 2015. If you were a Dark Souls fan, it was like everything you loved, but updated and even more intense. It’s a third-person action RPG set in this really cool, creepy Victorian world, packed with monsters and tons of hidden lore. Seriously, it quickly became one of my all-time favorite ‘Souls-like’ games, and a lot of people still agree it’s amazing.
