Sony Pictures is now officially making a movie based on the popular video game Metal Gear Solid, under the Columbia Pictures banner.

After directing episodes of Final Destination: Bloodlines, Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein have made a deal with Sony Pictures to create new content. As part of this deal, under their new production company Wonderlab, they will direct the movie adaptation of the popular video game Metal Gear Solid. This will be the first time Hideo Kojima’s iconic game has been adapted for film.

Avi and Ari Arad will produce the movie, which aims to capture the spirit of the popular video game series with its focus on stealth, science fiction, and complex spy stories. Although Oscar Isaac was previously set to star as Solid Snake with Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing, it’s currently unknown how much of that earlier plan will stay in place with the new team taking over.
