Sonic The Hedgehog’s 10/10 Isekai Is A Masterpiece From Start To Finish

The Sonic the Hedgehog series has produced a lot of TV shows, and its recent isekai adventure is a truly exceptional story from start to finish. While many successful video games become large franchises, Sonic the Hedgehog remains one of the most popular and extensive.

The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is huge! Beyond the main 15 games, there are over 100 titles including spin-offs. Fans can also enjoy a wide range of related content like books, comics, web series, and animated shorts. For TV viewers, there are seven different shows, and movie fans can watch three successful Sonic films, with a fourth one currently in production.

It can be tough to choose what to watch, play, or read with so many options available. As a big Sonic fan myself, I understand that feeling of being overwhelmed by everything there is to enjoy. But if you’re looking for your next Sonic experience, I highly recommend watching Sonic X, the anime series. It’s truly excellent!

Sonic X Is Pretty Much An Isekai

Sonic X can be seen as a type of ‘isekai’ anime, a genre where characters are transported to another world. However, it flips the usual formula: instead of a character from our world going to a fantasy realm, it brings characters from a fantasy world – Sonic and his friends – to our everyday world. They have to use their special powers to deal with the problems they face, making it an ‘isekai’ experience for them, and a reverse ‘isekai’ story from our point of view.

In the third season of Sonic X, the show leans more into the “Isekai” genre when Sonic’s friend Chris, now sixteen, builds a portal to rejoin Sonic and the others on their fantastical home world.

When he lands on the new planet, he transforms back into his 12-year-old form, but doesn’t lose his memories or intelligence. This proves useful when he, Sonic, and their friends venture into space to locate the Chaos Emeralds and stop the Metarex.

Sonic X Is The Perfect Show To Watch While Waiting For Sonic 4

Look, there have been a few Sonic TV shows over the years, but if you’re a fan counting down the days until Sonic 4 (which, let’s be real, isn’t coming until 2027!), I strongly recommend Sonic X. It’s the one that really feels connected to the core of what makes Sonic great, and it dives into themes of finding where you belong and taking responsibility – stuff that any Sonic fan will appreciate.

Sonic and his friends suddenly find themselves in our world. Chris becomes like a real family to Sonic, something he hasn’t really experienced before outside of Maddie and Tom. Now, they all have to work together to deal with the challenges that followed them when they arrived on Earth.

Why Sonic X Is The Best TV Show In The Franchise

If you ask a dedicated Sonic the Hedgehog fan which TV show is the best, most will say Sonic X. As someone who also loves the franchise, I completely agree.

Compared to other TV adaptations, Sonic X does the best job of staying true to the personalities of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and all their friends. It even captures Sonic’s confident and slightly arrogant attitude, which was different in the Sonic movies.

The show faithfully recreates the plots of the games, but also includes fun scenes of the characters relaxing and hanging out. The animation style is appealing and looks great even though the show originally aired over twenty years ago.

Overall, Sonic X is a truly excellent show, and I say that even aside from the fond memories I have of watching it as a kid. It really lives up to being called a masterpiece.
