Remember when we used to wait years for new games in this series? Now, we’re getting not one but two movies within a few years!

Ahead of Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s release this weekend, a fourth movie has already been confirmed.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my excitement over diving back into the world of my beloved video game icon, now gracing the big screen in an epic adventure! This time around, he squares off against Shadow, brilliantly voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves. Previews have been nothing short of impressive, suggesting that this production is a must-see for gaming and movie enthusiasts alike.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve just learned from Variety that the studio Paramount might be gearing up for a sequel, and it looks like we could be diving back into their world as early as spring 2027!

Later, Sonic voice actor Ben Schwartz verified the news himself by posting a snapshot of the article on his Twitter account.

“THIS. IS. NOT. A. DRILL. SONIC 4. 2027. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!” he wrote.

The movie titled “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” has achieved an impressive 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The general consensus about it is: “Featuring a generous dose of Jim Carrey’s humor and a speed that matches Sonic perfectly, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 stands out as the finest installment in this pleasant series so far.

The AV Club described it as an exhilarating ride from beginning to end, sure to satisfy even the toughest fans of the Green Hill Zone.

In simpler terms, IGN stated that despite initial doubts, the Sonic the Hedgehog films seem to be improving with each installment. Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter indicated that it has enough fast-paced action and funny moments to keep kids engaged without being too dull for their parents.

Initial responses to the movie have been largely favorable, with several reviewers declaring that the third installment is currently the best in the film franchise.

Apart from Schwartz and Reeves, the film brings back Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, along with Idris Elba portraying Knuckles, Colleen O’Shaughnessey taking on the role of Tails, and James Marsden and Tika Sumpter assuming the characters of Tom and Maddie Wachowski.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is out now in US cinemas and is released in UK cinemas on December 21.
