Sonic 3 writers address Dr Robotnik’s fate
As a long-time fan with memories of playing Sonic games since my childhood, I must say that the latest installment, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, has truly taken me on an exhilarating ride! The action, adventure, and humor were perfectly balanced, and the voice acting was nothing short of exceptional.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 spoilers follow.
Writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller on Sonic the Hedgehog 3 have hinted at the possible demise of Dr. Robotnik, stating that he’s “totally deceased… possibly.
Once more, the storyline revolves around our protagonist, Ben Schwartz’s character, and his team as they encounter the treacherous villain known as The Shadow, who has been recruited by the malevolent duo of Ivo Robotnik (also played by Jim Carrey) and his grandfather, Gerald. This time, Keanu Reeves takes on the role of The Shadow.
At the end of the movie, Gerald and Ivo clash because they both have distinct wicked schemes for the Eclipse Cannon. Eventually, Ivo and Shadow join forces with Sonic, Knuckles (portrayed by Idris Elba), and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) to divert the beam away from Earth instead.
Despite some losses along the way, the team managed to accomplish their goal, with Ivo and Shadow making the ultimate sacrifice. However, it’s only in an additional scene after the credits roll that we learn Shadow somehow survived, while the outcome of Ivo remains uncertain.
As a gamer, I’m left wondering about the future of my favorite character within this video game series, as they’ve just announced a fourth installment. The uncertainty lies in where the story might go from here, given that my character’s fate is tied to Jim Carrey’s willingness to reappear in the franchise. According to what Casey and Miller shared with GamesRadar, it all hinges on whether Jim is open to stepping back into the role again.
Miller expressed his hope that a multitude of these will be produced, and who knows, perhaps by the time Sonic The Hedgehog 8 rolls around… much like with the Fast & Furious franchise, it has shown us that characters need not stay deceased if they don’t wish to.
Casey noted, “Indeed, it’s reasonable to assume so given the space blast, but it’s still a possibility… that’s more about Jim, as far as I can tell.” Meanwhile, Casey also commended Carrey’s acting skills.
There are hardly any actors capable of achieving what was done here; it seems like just a single name fits the bill. In fact, comedy is no easy task,” he commented, with Miller emphasizing that the actor nailed both parts flawlessly in the movie.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is in cinemas now.
