Somehow... Rotta the Hutt has returned and Jeremy Allen White is voicing him

As a seasoned gamer with decades of Star Wars lore under my belt, I must say that the news about Jeremy Allen White joining The Mandalorian and Grogu is nothing short of electrifying! With his Emmy-winning performance in The Bear, it’s clear he has what it takes to breathe life into a character as iconic as Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta.

It’s been announced that the popular series “The Mandalorian and Grogu” is set to welcome a highly talented actor, Jeremy Allen White, in what seems to be one of the most surprising pieces of news this year. According to Jeff Sneider from The InSneider, as reported on The Kristian Harloff Show and confirmed by Deadline, White will appear in the next big-screen adventure featuring “The Mandalorian and Grogu.

In the acclaimed production of “The Bear“, the lead character is brilliantly portrayed by White. He has earned two Emmys and secured a third nomination for the Golden Globes, having previously won two consecutive awards. So, in what esteemed role does such exceptional acting talent shine? Definitely not a minor, insignificant part, correct?

The significant role that Jeremy is reported to be playing is that of Jabba’s son, Rotta the Hutt!

No, not Ezra Bridger’s son. Jabba the Hutt’s son Rotta, or “Stinky” as Ahsoka Tano would call him, was first featured in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008). The Mandalorian successfully brought several characters from animation into live-action, including Tano as well as Bo-Katan Kryze. Now, the first big-screen Star Wars film since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker will introduce another animated character to the world stage. The Mandalorian and Grogu will essentially be encountering a slightly older Rotta the Hutt, to be voiced by Jeremy Allen White. Technically, The Bear has already touched a galaxy far, far away when Ebon Moss-Bachrach played Arvel Skeen in Andor.

Since we initially encountered Rotta as a young Hutt in animation, it’s intriguing to see how his appearance will adapt for live-action. It would be fascinating to explore how the death of Jabba the Hutt in “Return of the Jedi” may have influenced his character development. Previously, Hutts other than Jabba have made appearances in two Star Wars live-action projects: “The Phantom Menace” and “The Book of Boba Fett.” The question remains whether Rotta will be troubled that the Hutt’s recent efforts to reclaim their position as the criminal overlords of Tatooine were foiled by both a former employee, Boba Fett, and Din Djarin.

In this innovative take on Star Wars, The Mandalorian and Grogu (also known as ‘Baby Yoda’) embody the concept of legacy as they grace the big screen. The inclusion of Rotta the Hutt in the story also invites a deeper examination of Jabba the Hutt’s legacy. If there is an actor capable of adding weight to a character who could be considered the grandchild, so to speak, of the iconic Jabba the Hutt, it would undoubtedly be Jeremy Allen White from ‘The Bear’.
