Blizzard Entertainment plans to share a future blog post, delving into an array of statistics and information regarding Overwatch 2. This post will encompass hero bans in competitive play across all skill levels and geographical areas, as well as revealing insights on recently introduced heroes. Moreover, it will feature various fascinating metrics and evolving trends from the game.
Sombra is the most banned hero in competitive
In the popular game Overwatch 2, Sombra stands out as the character that’s been banned the most, with an astounding ban rate of 85%. Players who specialize in Sombra may need to consider switching to other characters. Not far behind are Zarya and Doomfist, each being banned about 59% and 43% of the time, respectively. The support role is noticeably different, with Ana being the most commonly banned support at a rate barely over 20%.
From my perspective, if Sombra’s stats on PC were subpar, they’re downright dismal on consoles. On console versions of Overwatch 2, Sombra gets banned an astounding 93% of the time, making it a real challenge for fellow Sombra mains to even play the game. Following closely behind is Zarya with a 57% ban rate, and Symmetra comes in third at 23%. In the support role, Mercy reigns supreme as the most banned hero on console. Interestingly, while Baptiste is the least banned character on PC with just a 0.16% ban rate, it’s Hanzo who holds that title on console with a 0.24% ban rate.
Freja statistics
It’s possible that some of you may be curious about Freja’s performance in the game. Since her debut, the percentage of games where she’s banned has been steadily increasing, starting at 10% and reaching close to 40%. However, on console platforms, players don’t seem to find her as problematic since her ban rate remains relatively low, not surpassing 10%.
Masters+ bans
It’s common for ban rates to differ quite a bit depending on rank. In PC games at levels above Master, Freja stands out with an impressive ban rate close to 80%. D.Va and Sombra aren’t far behind. Conversely, on consoles, Sombra remains the most frequently banned character, also boasting a ban rate of nearly 80%. D.Va and Mercy follow closely in popularity.
Regional bans
In most areas outside of Europa, Freja is the character that gets banned the most frequently, given she was recently introduced. An exception to this trend is Korea, where players in Master rank or above often ban Freja alongside D.Va and Sombra; Ana is a close contender for the third spot. In contrast, Europe shows a similar ban rate for Freja and D.Va, with D.Va being the most frequently banned hero, joined by Wrecking Ball and Zarya. The same trend holds true in the Americas, where Freja takes the top spot for bans, followed closely by D.Va and Zarya.
It’s possible you’re curious about how the team plans to utilize this data. As per Blizzard, their intention is to leverage this information to guide hero balance adjustments. For instance, heroes that are less frequently used or only chosen for certain maps could see a shift towards more general usage. Additionally, changes might be made to underused heroes, regardless of their current performance. At present, there are no imminent changes in the works.
