Solo's inclusion in Silo season 2 tells us when the rebellion will take place

As a voracious reader who has devoured the Wool trilogy by Hugh Howey multiple times, I am thrilled to share my thoughts on the upcoming season 2 of Silo. Having immersed myself in the intricate world that Howey created, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation that borders on exhilaration.

In a few months, we’ll finally get to witness the start of Silo season 2, and we’re eagerly anticipating which sections from the Wool trilogy by Hugh Howey will be incorporated into the storyline. The showrunner, Graham Yost, has hinted at an impending rebellion, so we can only speculate when this event might transpire.

Caution: We’re delving into some spoilers from the Wool trilogy in this post.

In the finale of Silo season 1, I found myself stepping out with a cleaning cloth in hand. Instead of tidying up, I let the cloth slip from my grasp and strode towards the towering tree ahead. Beyond that tree and over the hill, I ventured to a place no one had ever been before.

Instead of immediately revealing Juliette’s current situation, Yost explains that the premiere episode will start with a rebellion instead. While the timeline of the rebellion remains unspecified, viewers can piece together its context by referring to the books and understanding Solo’s role in the story.

What happens when a rebellion happens in the silos in Silo season 2?

Additionally, Yost mentioned the phrase “prepare for war in case the cleaning doesn’t succeed.” This is due to the high likelihood of an uprising. It seems that people have begun to suspect there might be something beyond what they currently know, and the inhabitants of Silo 18 will undoubtedly feel this as well.

From the finale of Silo‘s first season, it’s evident that other silos exist, and it’s those locations where this uprising will likely unfold. In the story of Wool, Juliette navigates to another silo, but unlike hers, it’s eerily quiet. The exterior is filled with lifeless bodies, while inside, there’s a palpable feeling of desolation. Interestingly, it appears that only one individual has survived: a man referred to as Solo.

We’ll uncover the tale of Solo, whose life took an extraordinary turn at the tender age of a teenager when a rebellion erupted within his silo. This event resulted in his father, who served as Bernard’s counterpart, confining him to a hidden chamber. Miraculously, Solo managed to survive while those outside the room perished.

It appears that’s where we’ll be unveiling new developments, with the first episode heavily featuring Juliette. We can expect the rebellion within Solo’s silo to unfold, providing us with an introduction to Solo’s past. This will help us understand what could happen in Juliette’s silo if she doesn’t find a way out of her current situation.

In other words, it’s possible that some narrative threads from other books might be incorporated into the second season of Silo. Additionally, we can expect some unique and original storytelling specifically for the storyline involving Silo 18 in the upcoming series.

Who is Solo in the Wool trilogy?

In the story, Solo is the lone inhabitant left in his isolated living space following an uprising. He thinks he’s alone, though the exact meaning of that might be open to interpretation. Interestingly, his father was paired with Bernard for another silo. During the rebellion, his father hid Solo inside a room and intended to retrieve his mother before returning. However, things didn’t go as planned.

As a dedicated fan, I’d rephrase it like this: For me, Solo found solace in the locked room filled with sustenance. However, there were moments when intruders threatened his peace, and isolation became his constant companion. Yet, he valiantly fended off these threats, all while knowing that help wasn’t on its way. His existence became a battle for survival amidst loneliness.

Through the books found in that room, he gains a deeper understanding of the silo system, uncovering its hidden truths.

By the time Juliette gets to Solo, he’s been here alone for decades. He’s afraid of the dark and of the noises that he hears. He’s really a teenager trapped in an adult’s body, and it adds another layer of humanity to the series.

In the upcoming season 2 of Silo, Steve Zahn has been cast as the character Solo. And let me tell you, he embodies perfectly the image I had while reading about him in the books!

We needed somebody who is amazing, and we got it with Steve. He is somebody who can be funny and scary and scared, and a little accustomed to human company.

Silo season 2 premieres on Friday, Nov. 15 on Apple TV+.
