Author Chugong recently mentioned that a movie adaptation of his popular light novel series is being planned, though it’s still in the very beginning stages of development.
Ever since the second season of *Solo Leveling* came out, fans have been wondering what’s next for the anime. Although the series is still popular thanks to video games, the ongoing *Solo Leveling: Ragnarok* sequel comic, and a new live-action Netflix show, we still don’t know when Season 3 will be released. Recent comments from the author, Chugong, suggest the delay might be because they’re working on a new movie.
Solo Leveling Team Is Working on Making a Movie, According to Chugong
In a recent interview with LitRes, a Russian platform for ebooks and audiobooks, the author of the popular *Solo Leveling* series, Chugong, talked about the future of his work. When asked if there had been interest in turning *Solo Leveling* into a movie or TV show, Chugong said that he was aware of ongoing discussions about potential adaptations.
Although details are scarce, this news is exciting for Sung Jinwoo fans. Chugong hasn’t said if they’re talking about a movie or an anime, but since another live-action film is already planned, it’s likely these discussions are about an anime movie instead.
As a huge fan, it makes so much sense to me that a movie could be why we haven’t heard anything about *Solo Leveling* Season 3 yet! If they’re planning a film, A-1 Pictures and Aniplex probably want to focus on that first instead of jumping right into another season. It even explains that comment from Aniplex’s Sota Furuhashi about wanting to ‘do something else’ – they clearly have a big project in the works to keep us busy until the next season!
I’ve been watching the anime scene lately, and it’s been incredible. *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle* absolutely smashed all the movie records when it came out, and *Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc* is predicted to do really well too when it reaches the US on October 24th. It’s no surprise, then, that the creators of *Solo Leveling* want a piece of that success. It’s funny, because in a recent interview, the author, Chugong, said his favorite part of *Solo Leveling* to write was the Red Gate arc – and that’s exactly the story they chose to adapt into the first *Solo Leveling* movie, *Solo Leveling: ReAwakening*.
Chugong didn’t share many details about a potential *Solo Leveling* movie, but he did discuss the future of the series. He sparked some debate by comparing the *Solo Leveling* universe to Marvel’s multiverse. He’s now considering writing a sequel to the original *Solo Leveling* story.
You can watch the anime *Solo Leveling* on Crunchyroll. If you’d like to read the *Solo Leveling: Ragnarok* webcomic, it’s available in English on Tapas.
