Soldier: 76’s love story takes center stage in Overwatch 2 Pride Month 2025

For the 2025 Pride Month, Overwatch 2 will highlight an emotional tale of love between characters Jack (Soldier: 76) and Vincent, showcasing their heartwarming relationship.

In an alternate rendition: Jack Morrison, or Soldier: 76 as he’s famously known, was engrossed in his work late into the night, striving for his upcoming promotion. Suddenly, there was an explosion at the opposite end of the hall. It was there that Jack encountered Vincent, a man brewing a unique wedding beer concoction. Seizing the opportunity to lend a hand, a heartwarming tale unfolded between them. Get ready for “Futures Past,” the latest Pride Month narrative in Overwatch 2.

The beginning

Following the chaos, it was Jack who decided to stick around and aid Vincent in tidying up the lab. It turned out that Vincent had been attempting an ancient Egyptian recipe when things took a turn for the worse. At first, Jack assumed Vincent might be concocting a drink from his recent wedding, but the student swiftly clarified he was actually unattached. With their combined efforts, they managed to clear up the entire mess. Subsequently, a date was planned between them.

Later on, there was a time jump. Prior to embarking on a mission in the outskirts of Runasapi, Sombra had warned him: “She’ll be close to where the disaster occurred, not the memorial. Just go anywhere near the spot, and trust me, she’ll locate you.” Jack committed the map that Sombra had shown him to memory, until he reached a dead end where he was ambushed by an enigmatic individual. That was Illari. Following their interaction, Illari disclosed that the mission was far more intricate than Sombra had let on.

Coming back home

As soon as Jack departed from their apartment, Vincent understood that war was never an easy endeavor. Coming back home proved even more challenging, for they could hardly grasp the extent of the harm the war inflicted. With sleepless nights ahead, they found solace in each other, sharing sandwiches and a couple of beers. After a tough talk, Jack confessed his resolve to work towards a safer world for Vincent. In time, they dozed off on the couch, their eyes glued to distant fireworks symbolizing turmoil.

In the post-mission debriefing of Overwatch 2, we delved deeper into the emotional journey of Jack and Vincent. It turned out that when Jack was off duty, Vincent had a heartfelt plea for him to stay put, as they both desired to build a family together. The long distances and Jack’s career advancements were casting doubts over their relationship’s future. When asked about retirement, Jack hesitated, despite the war being at an end. Yet, Jack never seemed keen on relinquishing his military life, which ultimately led to Vincent’s departure. As a dedicated fan of their story, it was heart-wrenching to witness this emotional rollercoaster unfold.

Vincent shared, “I had feelings for you long before the Soldier Enhancement Program; even before Overwatch and the crisis. It was the moment you saved me after that mishap with the exploding keg, that’s when my affection truly began. And now, it continues to grow.

After Jack’s triumphant mission alongside Illari, he found himself pondering a fresh phase in his existence. In an emotional missive to his cherished one, he confided that he was still alive and conveyed his joy for Vincent to discover the love that was rightfully his. Moreover, he seized the opportunity to acknowledge Vincent for all the precious moments they had experienced, despite their separation no longer being imminent.
