Soho House Unveils Its First Japanese Outpost in Tokyo’s Aoyama District

Summary

  • Soho House Tokyo debuts as the brand’s first location in Japan featuring 42 bedrooms and a rooftop infinity pool
  • The interior design balances European vintage furniture with local elements like Kyoto lacquer and Nagoya tiles
  • A bespoke uniform collection has been developed in partnership with Onitsuka Tiger utilizing the DENIVITA series

Soho House has opened its first location in Japan, bringing its members’ club experience to the trendy Aoyama district of Tokyo. The new space, housed in a modern building close to Omotesando, spans 75,000 square feet and features stunning views of Tokyo Tower and Mount Fuji. Inside, you’ll find a club area spread over two floors, a wellness studio, and 42 guest rooms in a variety of sizes, from cozy to extra large.

The House blends Eastern and Western design elements, combining the bold, layered style of Soho House with refined Japanese artistry. You’ll notice this in details like the reception desk, skillfully made in Kyoto using traditional lacquer techniques, and the walls covered in delicate, handmade Japanese paper. The bedrooms continue this theme with flooring reminiscent of tatami mats and custom-made fabrics created from repurposed vintage kimonos. The 14th-floor pool area boasts a stunning infinity pool, lined with unique indigo and white tiles crafted in Gifu.

The restaurants and club spaces at Soho House offer a menu of comforting European dishes with a local twist, including a dedicated sushi counter overseen by head chef Kunihiro Shinohara. Highlights include a Prawn Scotch Egg inspired by okonomiyaki and a Sticky Toffee Pudding reimagined as a taiyaki with Okinawan caramel. To celebrate the opening, Soho House collaborated with Onitsuka Tiger on special staff uniforms, inspired by the brand’s DENIVITA line and its focus on modern Japanese denim.
