I was shocked to read about the lawsuit filed yesterday! Apparently, a bartender at the Soho Warehouse in downtown LA is claiming her supervisor at the club actually drugged and sexually assaulted her. It’s a really disturbing situation, and she’s taking legal action in Los Angeles Superior Court.
In a complaint filed under the name Jane Doe, a woman stated that shortly after starting as a bartender at Berenjak restaurant in September 2025, she experienced repeated unwanted sexual advances and physical touching from her supervisor, Leonard Marcelo Vichique Maya.
Jane Doe is filing a lawsuit against Vichique Maya, Soho House, the Los Angeles branch of Soho House, and Soho Warehouse, alleging sexual harassment, retaliation, and related issues.
Attorney Nick Yasman of West Coast Trial Lawyers described the situation as a shockingly insensitive example of a company disregarding sexual violence in the workplace.
Representatives for Soho House and Vichique Maya were not immediately available for comment.
According to the lawsuit, Vichique Maya repeatedly commented on Doe’s appearance, asked her to become his casual sexual partner, and made a comment implying she would be pregnant if they had started a relationship sooner. These comments were allegedly made where her supervisors and coworkers could hear them.
According to the complaint, Doe reported Vichique Maya’s behavior to two male supervisors – a floor manager and the food and beverage director at Soho House – within two weeks of starting her job. However, the complaint states that neither supervisor did anything to address the issue or investigate it.
The lawsuit states that Doe alleges the company failed to take action regarding his reported misconduct, even after receiving complaints about a pattern of harassing behavior.
Honestly, it’s just awful. She says things really took a turn after a work event on September 13th – a supposed team-building thing. She claims she had a bit too much to drink with her bosses and colleagues and things got hazy. She actually lost consciousness and woke up completely disoriented, and the last thing she remembers is being in Vichique Maya’s apartment… and being naked. It’s a truly disturbing account.
According to the lawsuit, even though the plaintiff was regaining consciousness, she was unable to move or speak and was forced to helplessly witness the repeated sexual assault.
The following day, Doe told her floor manager that Vichique Maya had sexually assaulted her.
She stated that her manager acknowledged his inappropriate behavior towards her at the work event, and dismissed it by saying such things sometimes occur between colleagues.
She stated she could no longer work with Vichique Maya, and the general manager reportedly dismissed her worries, saying he needed to prioritize keeping the restaurant running and couldn’t risk any problems.
After reporting she had been sexually assaulted to three managers, Doe stated she was repeatedly scheduled to work alongside Vichique Maya, who continued to sexually harass her.
In December, Doe reported an issue to Soho House’s HR department and was told they would investigate and take steps to fix it right away.
During the investigation, Doe stated she was put on leave indefinitely, while Vichique Maya remained at work. A month later, she learned the company had finished its investigation and determined her report of the rape couldn’t be proven, so Vichique Maya wouldn’t face any consequences.
In February, the plaintiff said that she was forced to quit her job.
Soho House, one of the original members-only social clubs, first opened in London in 1995. It rapidly gained popularity as a favorite hangout for celebrities and those with significant wealth. Now, the club has expanded internationally, with 48 locations in 19 countries worldwide.
It drew high-profile investors, including Ron Burkle through his investment fund Yucaipa.
I was so excited when I heard the company was planning to go public on the New York Stock Exchange back in 2021! It’s a shame things haven’t been easy financially for them since then, but I’m still hoping for the best.
Soho House was sold to an investment group last year, including Apollo Global Management and actor Ashton Kutcher, for $2.7 billion. Kutcher also became a member of the company’s board of directors.
