Sofia Vergara trades 2025 Emmys gig for a trip to the ER: ‘Craziest’ allergic reaction

Sofia Vergara’s Emmys Sunday plans unexpectedly included a trip to the emergency room.

Sofia Vergara, known for her roles in “Modern Family” and “Griselda,” had to cancel her planned appearances at awards events on Sunday because she was being treated for an allergic reaction. She posted a picture on Instagram showing her swollen and irritated eye.

‘The Studio’ and Tramell Tillman both achieved a first for the Emmys, while Stephen Colbert secured a win despite uncertainty surrounding the future of his show. ‘Adolescence’ was also a big winner, receiving numerous awards.

She didn’t make it to the Emmys after all, ending up at the emergency room instead. She explained on Sunday evening that she had to cancel because of a sudden and severe allergic reaction in her eye, which happened right as she was leaving for the event.

I was really worried to see videos online of the Colombian actor in the hospital. She posted clips of herself resting in a hospital bed and even struggling with an eye flush at the sink, but she hasn’t said what happened or what caused the irritation. It’s definitely concerning, and I’m hoping she recovers quickly!

Last week, the Emmys revealed that Sofia Vergara would be a presenter at the awards show, which broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+ this past Sunday.

I just got back from the Emmys, and let me tell you, it was a pretty glamorous night! Nate Bargatze handled the hosting duties, and the presenter list was packed with major stars – we’re talking Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Stephen Colbert, Alan Cumming, Colman Domingo, Hunter Schafer, and even Sydney Sweeney. Definitely a night of seeing some familiar faces!

The Times’ writers reveal their most and least favorite experiences from working on and covering the show.

Sofia Vergara wasn’t the only celebrity missing from the Emmys. Eric Dane, known for his role on “Grey’s Anatomy,” was also absent. He recently shared that he has ALS. According to Deadline, Dane was planning to appear with former co-star Jesse Williams to commemorate the show’s 20th anniversary, but he had to cancel his appearance for reasons that weren’t disclosed.

While actress Sofia Vergara was receiving treatment for a severe allergic reaction, the cast of HBO’s medical drama, “The Pitt,” were celebrating a successful night at the Emmys. Noah Wyle, who stars as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch and also serves as an executive producer, won his first Emmy. His co-star, Katherine LaNasa, who plays nurse Dana Evans, won the award for best supporting actress in a drama series, and “The Pitt” itself was named the top drama series.

Seth Rogen’s show “The Studio” on Apple TV+ and the Netflix limited series “Adolescence” were also big winners at the awards ceremony.
