So Solid Crew star Lisa Maffia reveals she’s cleaning toilets and emptying bins at her local church – 23 years after Brit Awards triumph

Although she was part of one of the ’00s most famous hip hop collectives, Lisa Maffia isn’t hesitant about contributing to her community.

The 46-year-old musician recently disclosed that she now spends some of her time cleaning at her church, as evidenced by a peek into her daily routine she showcased in a recent TikTok video.

As a committed follower, I proudly share that I didn’t shy away from rolling up my sleeves during our Sunday gathering at the church. After the service concluded, you could find me tackling the cleaning tasks – from scrubbing the toilets to emptying the bins – demonstrating my dedication to keeping our spiritual home clean and welcoming.

She belongs to CityGate church, and she provides various services for the church. These duties may involve welcoming attendees, looking after children during services, playing instruments, handling audio and live streaming, and setting up the building for services or gatherings.

Throughout its history, So Solid Crew has been known for an impressive roster of talent, featuring prominent figures such as MC Harvey, Asher D, and Romeo.

In a recent TikTok post, Lisa shared with her audience that she would be attending church service this evening. As part of her duties, she mentioned that she would be using some of the products available to clean the restrooms.

In her subsequent post, she showcased a series of images displaying Lisa’s tasks: cleaning the bathrooms, disposing of waste, and vacuuming one of the rooms.

In September, Lisa sadly disclosed that her father had received a terminal cancer diagnosis, hoping for more precious moments together, as they had barely spent any time since the discovery.

In 2020, when her mother Shirley was diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer, the star made a heartfelt appeal for understanding and support.

For the first time on her Instagram Stories, she shared him with a heartfelt prayer for his “compassionate spirit,” beaming in a hospital gown while smiling.

Lisa wrote: ‘Heavenly father, grant me extra moments with this wonderful man who happens to be my dad. He is so gentle-hearted, and I can’t bear the thought of parting from him now that I’ve rediscovered him. If it’s possible, please extend our time together.’

The singer’s spokesperson affirmed to TopMob that he is fighting a severe, life-ending form of cancer. Meanwhile, Lisa is making efforts to increase understanding about the experiences of such patients and their families.

Lisa’s mother Shirley was diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer in 2020.

Last year, she shared that she was fervently hoping for the well-being of her dear mother, and boldly stated that the tragic illness would not prevail.

South London native Lisa, captioned the image: ‘Praying for my mumma today, cancer will not win!’

Lisa too posted a picture of her looking stylish with a long wig, accompanied by the caption: ‘It’s all right to experience ups and downs.’

In October, the celebrity emotionally shared her struggle as she watched her mom fight a difficult illness, while simultaneously waiting anxiously for tests to confirm whether her unusual cells indicated cancer.

During an interview, Lisa wept as she described watching her mother’s body being ravaged by cancer, as Shirley’s health deteriorated.

To The Sun, the singer emphasized the importance of getting regular cervical screenings, sharing that she had discovered abnormal cells in her cervix back in March. This led to her undergoing a colposcopy examination.

She wept while recounting that Shirley had skipped her regular pap smears for a span of five years due to feelings of pride and embarrassment, preventing her from visiting the doctor.

Disclosing details about her mother’s situation, Lisa shared: ‘My mom is someone who takes pride in herself and can be self-conscious. Visiting the doctor for a smear test, she felt it was quite intrusive and delayed doing so.’

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it this way: “Regrettably, I often find myself advising that prompt action is crucial when it comes to health concerns. For instance, if it takes two years for someone to seek medical help due to a persistent leg ache and recurring bleeding – signs that should have prompted an immediate visit – cancer may already have had ample time to spread.

Lisa explained that the cancer had advanced to Shirley’s lymphatic system near her neck and collarbone. Due to her relentless battle against cancer, she underwent extensive sessions of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Regrettably, these treatments resulted in the loss of one of her kidneys.

So Solid Crew made a big splash on the garage music scene back in 2001 with their chart-topping hit “21 Seconds,” which quickly climbed to the top position. Members such as Romeo, Harvey, Oxide and Neutrino, and Lisa were part of this dynamic group.

Nevertheless, following a series of unfavorable media coverage and some band members’ arrests, several performances had to be called off because of concerns about potential violence.

In the year 2013, the band got back together for a reunion tour, which eventually led to a main event performance at London’s iconic O2 Arena.

Since, Lisa has starred on a variety of reality TV shows and worked on her solo career. 

She currently owns a beauty salon in Margate, offering a range of treatments.
