As a devoted cinephile with decades of experience in following and analyzing the film industry, I cannot help but express my delight and relief at the box office success of Pixar’s “Inside Out 2.” Having grown up watching Pixar’s groundbreaking animated films and observing their impact on audiences of all ages, it’s heartening to see this beloved franchise continue to captivate and resonate with families around the world.
Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” has reached a significant achievement at the box office, bringing relief to concerns (intended pun) about Pixar’s future success as a Disney-owned computer animation studio.

The summer family blockbuster sequel on Tuesday passed the $1.25-billion mark at the global box office, passing 2018’s “Incredibles 2” to become Pixar’s highest grossing movie to date on a non-inflation-adjusted basis, according to Disney estimates.
As a movie buff, I’m thrilled to share that the long-awaited “Inside Out 2” sequel, which brings back the emotional journey of Riley from the original 2015 film, has raked in an impressive $543.5 million at the U.S. and Canadian box offices. However, it’s not quite catching up to Pixar’s non-adjusted domestic record of around $609 million set by “The Incredibles 2.”
In today’s dollars, “Incredibles 2’s” U.S.-Canada total is $758.5 million.
As a movie reviewer, I’ve noticed that Pixar, a studio known for its magical animated films, has been facing some challenges lately. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted their box office collections, leaving their 2020 release “Onward” largely forgotten by audiences.
Three upcoming original Pixar films – “Soul,” “Luca,” and “Turning Red” – were released directly on Disney+: “Soul” joined the platform, followed by “Luca” and finally “Turning Red.” However, Pixar’s next project, titled “Lightyear,” faced underperformance at the box office due to mixed reviews and controversy surrounding its portrayal of a same-sex kiss. Some people began to wonder if Pixar’s productions had declined in quality due to their challenges, and if Disney had conditioned children and parents to watch their films at home rather than in theaters.
The release of “Inside Out 2” has eased some fears, as family films have been successful at the box office recently. Notably, Universal and Illumination’s “Despicable Me 4,” featuring the popular yellow Minions, grossed $123 million in the US during the long Fourth of July weekend.
In the year 2025, Pixar will release a new original production titled “Elio.” This story follows a young boy’s extraordinary journey as he is appointed as Earth’s representative in intergalactic affairs.
