As a dedicated fan who’s been following the genre of superhero-turned-anti-hero shows for quite some time now, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that Daveed Diggs is joining the cast of The Boys for its fifth and final season!
The television series “Snowpiercer,” featuring Daveed Diggs as a freedom fighter traveling aboard a high-speed train in a post-apocalyptic world, has recently concluded. This timing works out well for Diggs, as it was just announced that he will join the cast of “The Boys” for its fifth and final season on their official page. Unfortunately, we don’t know yet which character Diggs will portray in the upcoming season.

Following his successful portrayal of Thomas Jefferson and the Marquis de Lafayette in the hit Broadway show “Hamilton”, Diggs has maintained a steady acting career both on stage and screen. Notably, he played a significant role in “Snowpiercer” and has also done extensive voice work. This includes his portrayal of Sebastian the crab in Disney’s updated version of “The Little Mermaid”, as well as roles in shows like “Central Park”, “Star Wars: Visions”, “Star Trek: Prodigy”, and “Invincible”.
Similar to “Invincible”, “The Boys” is a graphic, intense superhero series available on Amazon Prime Video. Given this background, Diggs should be able to bring valuable experience to the show. Regardless of the character he portrays, I’m confident he will make a strong contribution to “The Boys”. Given the show’s track record, it’s likely that his character will embody a morally questionable superhero with some disturbing quirks, meet an untimely demise, or both.
For several years now, “The Boys” has consistently delivered an engaging tale about a team of unconventional heroes rebelling against the corrupt system they find themselves in. This narrative serves not only as an entertaining underdog story but also as a sharp critique of superhero movies and right-wing authoritarianism. The series is known for its graphic violence, and though significant character deaths have been relatively rare throughout the series, the intensity has escalated in season 4, with showrunner Eric Kripke likely to continue this trend as the end approaches.
Anticipate that the last installments of “The Boys” series will begin airing around 2026. In the interim, a fresh season of its spinoff titled “Gen V” is slated to premiere in 2025.
