Snowpiercer confirmed Wilford’s fate: Did he die by his own hand?
As a seasoned gamer who’s navigated countless narratives and plot twists, I must admit that Snowpiercer has been quite the captivating rollercoaster ride. The death of Wilford, however, left me with mixed emotions – like finding an unexpected boss level in a game you thought was over.
In Snowpiercer, we soon realized that whatever Wilford claims might not always be reliable. However, there are instances when he speaks the truth, as was seen a few episodes back.
At the close of Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 7, Wilford puffed on a cigar. He warned Layton that it contained poison, threatening his life. Subsequently, he detached the carriage where Layton resided, causing our attention to shift towards Layton, Josie, and Liana instead of Wilford.
In the second-to-last episode, we discovered if Wilford was indeed honest about the tainted cigar he mentioned.
Wilford is dead in Snowpiercer
It turns out that Wilford was telling the truth. At least, that’s what Layton believes.
Alex inquired about the fate of a person once significant to her, mentioning she wouldn’t hold it against Layton if he had ended the life of Wilford. Layton clarified that he didn’t kill Wilford but revealed that Wilford had taken his own life through poisoning.
As a dedicated fan, I pondered the reasons behind Wilford’s actions. It struck me that he was fully aware he wouldn’t attain what he desired with Nima in control. The Animal Squad wouldn’t obey Wilford, and he craved a world where he was revered above all. Facing certain death at the hands of others, he chose to end his life on his own terms.
Alex does show a little sadness. It’s hard not to. This is the man who saved her. Twice.
He ensured she boarded Big Alice after she had been left behind. Later, he removed her from the car that was being divided during the purge on Big Alice. Alex harbored a sense of gratitude towards Wilford for a long time, but it wasn’t until much later that she understood he was manipulating her. However, there remains a part of her that empathizes with him and misses him. She acknowledges that the world is also safer without him present.
As we move towards the conclusion of the Snowpiercer series, there remains a multitude of unanswered questions regarding its potential ending.
