Snow White: Rachel Zegler Shrugs Off Criticism of Controversial Disney Remake

Similar to how Elsa from Frozen wasn’t affected by the cold, Rachel Zegler, who will play Snow White in Disney’s 2025 remake, hasn’t been bothered by the online discussion surrounding the film.

The Snow White remake criticism doesn’t bother Rachel Zegler

Even before its official release, Disney’s upcoming Snow White film faced criticism, currently holding a 38% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Online debate sparked around the casting of Rachel Zegler as Snow White and the movie’s changes to the original story, including the decision to leave out the Seven Dwarfs. This discussion intensified when Zegler voiced her own criticisms of Disney’s animated version.

I was really disappointed to hear that Snow White didn’t do well in theaters – it only made $206 million worldwide, and reports say it cost $270 million to make. Despite all the negativity and calls for a boycott, and even with the film flopping, I admire how Rachel Zegler has handled everything. She recently told Glamour that she just doesn’t let the online criticism bother her, saying it ‘rolls right off her back’ now, which I think is a fantastic attitude!

The actor shared that she hasn’t let the backlash she received for speaking out about the original Snow White and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict bother her. She believes it’s crucial for actors to be able to express their views openly. She explained that people often forget public figures are human and have feelings, treating them as if they’re simply objects for public consumption. She feels it’s important to accept that having opinions and emotions is natural, even for those in the public eye.

Despite being considered one of Disney’s weakest live-action remakes, Rachel Zegler cherishes her involvement in ‘Snow White.’ She shared that she formed lasting friendships with her castmates, and that negative online reactions haven’t affected those bonds. She considers the people she worked with to be a true family, despite the film’s box office failure.

You can watch Snow White on Disney+, where it’s available with the classic animated movie and other live-action versions from the studio.
