Snow Peak’s First-Ever Cooling Apparel Line Uses Peltier Technology and Water Circulation to Solve Japan’s Extreme Heat Problem

Summary

  • Snow Peak is launching its first cooling apparel collection, the Cooling System Wear, on May 22 with two new vests joining two already-released items across a four-piece lineup
  • The Peltier Cooling Device Vest features an industry-first simultaneous operation of six Peltier units and two fan units; the Water Cooling Device Vest circulates cold water through internal tubes via a pump system
  • Both vests are constructed in Taslan nylon, available in Black, and sold through Snow Peak directly managed stores, the official online store, and select retailers nationwide

Snow Peak is introducing cooling clothing for the first time with its new Cooling System Wear series, available in Japan starting May 22nd. The line features two innovative vests – the Peltier Cooling Device Vest and the Water Cooling Device Vest – and expands on previously released items like a cooling poncho and a stainless steel cooling pack.

The most impressive part of the Snow Peak Cooling Vest is its advanced cooling system. It uses both direct contact cooling with Peltier elements and airflow from fans – a combination Snow Peak claims is unique in the industry. The vest has six Peltier coolers and two fans, strategically placed to target key areas for heat loss: two small units at the neck, and two large units on the back and sides. Powered by an included battery pack, the vest is made from Taslan nylon, a comfortable, synthetic fabric that makes it suitable for both outdoor adventures and everyday wear, despite all the technology inside.

The Water Cooling Vest offers a unique solution for staying cool. It uses a pump to circulate cold water through tubes inside the vest, effectively drawing heat away from your body – and it does so quietly. You can adjust the cooling level by adding water, ice, or the included cooling packs to the rear tank. A key benefit is its versatility: the cooling system is removable, transforming the vest into a standard, multi-pocket field vest for use when cooling isn’t necessary. It’s made from durable Taslan nylon and is available in black.

Snow Peak is launching this new gear because Japan is experiencing increasingly intense and early heat waves, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C. For a company dedicated to enjoying the outdoors no matter the weather, cooling clothing feels like a natural extension of their brand. However, what’s surprising is the advanced technology they’ve put into these products. The Peltier vest, for example, isn’t a basic attempt at cooling – it’s a high-quality, thoughtfully designed piece of equipment, built with the same dedication to craftsmanship as their well-known titanium cookware and camping furniture.

Snow Peak’s new Cooling System Wear will be available starting May 22nd at Snow Peak stores, on the official Snow Peak website, and at select retailers across Japan.
