SNL Star’s Rare LA Outing Reveals Controversial Kiss with OJ Simpson

She found fame as the eccentric daughter of an extraterrestrial family on late-night TV.

Among the initial stars of a legendary series, she left her imprint by portraying various roles as well, including a precursor to a Valley girl and a dim-witted hostess on a community television program.

In another role, the comedy icon created quite a stir in a sketch featuring a heartfelt kiss with football legend-turned-murder suspect OJ Simpson. Later on, she described him as an excellent kisser.

Despite moving away from B-list movies that provided financial stability during the 80s, she continues to be active in the entertainment industry. In fact, she’s been vocal online with passionate comments critiquing a highly-acclaimed TV show, which she believes should have received an Emmy award her actress daughter was nominated for instead.

Currently, she generally prefers to stay out of the limelight, opting to reside elsewhere. However, she was lately noticed during an uncommon excursion in Los Angeles, the city she’s dwelled in for the majority of her existence.

Can you guess who she is?

It’s Laraine Newman!

73-year-old comedian was seen strolling her pet black poodle along her neighborhood street in Los Angeles last week.

Regardless of her popularity as an original cast member on Saturday Night Live, Newman herself has admitted that she never truly enjoyed being part of the show or living in New York City. This period in her life was marked by the development of eating disorders and a struggle with heroin addiction.

However, DailyMail.com pictures reveal that Laraine appears to be flourishing in her hometown, walking its familiar streets with an air of tranquility.

This way, the sentence remains informative and engaging while using simpler language for easier understanding.

On that occasion, Newman donned a vibrant orange long-sleeve top, which was affiliated with the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, paired with black track pants and black footwear.

Her brown hair was in its usual straight style, but the comedian had graying roots.

Previously known as an SNL comedian, this individual has stepped away from on-screen roles and is now focusing on writing and serving as a contributing editor for the digital publication, One For The Table, which covers topics such as food, politics, and love.

Apart from that, she has worked independently for publications such as the Huffington Post, the Los Angeles Times, The Believer, and McSweeney’s.

Newman’s career took off when he joined the original cast of Saturday Night Live from 1975 to 1980, giving him a home run start in show business.

Her best-known comedy roles included Connie Conehead, a character resembling a Valley girl from the future, Sherry, a precursor to the Valley girl stereotype, and Christie Christina, who was one of the co-hosts on a public access TV show alongside Dan Aykroyd’s character E. Buzz Miller.

One of her most notable guest spots occurred in 1978, alongside O.J. Simpson who was then known as a beloved football star rather than the infamous accused murderer he later became. In an interview with Andy Cohen in February, she described Simpson as both a competent host and a skilled kisser. This comment harkened back to a comedy sketch that mimicked the 1975 film Mandingo, during which they shared a passionate on-screen kiss.

Despite her success, Newman struggled with her mental health throughout her time on the show.

In her autobiography titled “May You Live in Interesting Times,” Laraine narrated her battle against substance abuse and the challenging aspects of maintaining visibility amidst the intense competition for screen time among SNL cast members.

Additionally, Newman’s memoir disclosed past relationships with Aykroyd and Phil Hartman, the latter of whom tragically lost his life in 1998 due to being shot by his separated spouse, Brynn, at their residence in Los Angeles.

Following her departure from SNL and New York, Laraine made appearances in comedic and science fiction films like “Wholly Moses”, “Stardust Memories”, and “Invaders from Mars”.

Later on, she began her journey into voice acting with animated series such as Danny Phantom, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Jimmy Neutron. Eventually, she ascended to the top tiers of success with blockbuster movies like WALL-E, Up!, Finding Nemo, and Monsters Inc.

Despite taking a fresh approach to writing, Newman continues to engage with her daughter Hannah Einbinder’s acting ventures.

At age 29, Hailey Einbinder burst onto the scene with her compelling portrayal of Ava Daniels in the popular television show “Hacks.” This performance earned her a Critics’ Choice Award and garnered nominations for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

Hailey Einbinder, at 29 years old, gained recognition for her role as Ava Daniels in the hit TV series “Hacks.” This role won her a Critics’ Choice Award and she was also nominated for both an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

Hannah has a second child from her previous marriage to Chad Einbinder, which took place in 1991. After around 25 years together, they ended their marriage in 2015.

Chad has appeared in multiple movies and television shows, such as Doctor Dolittle, The Time Traveler’s Wife, and Rapunzel (known as Tangled).

Their experience in Hollywood made them weary about Hannah’s desire to pursue her showbiz dreams.

Hannah shared with Town & Country that initially, her parents advised against pursuing comedy or acting, as they felt humor and acting skills might not be crucial factors in achieving success.

Despite initially being reluctant, Newman swiftly shared a critical comment about the show ‘The Bear’, following Hannah’s loss at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards in September.

I’m absolutely overjoyed for Liza Colon-Zayas on her well-deserved win at the Comedy Series Awards, but I can’t help feeling a little heartbroken since Hannah was also nominated in the same category for Hacks. #bittersweetvictory

Later on, she commented: ‘In my opinion, The Bear is an excellent series, but I don’t find it funny – not even the dark humor.’

As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but feel compelled to share: A fellow fan inquired about the need for the initial post, and in response, Laraine acknowledged, “Yes, I understand. I removed it. It wasn’t one of my finest moments.

Newman earlier shared her frustration over The Bear being in the same comedy category as Hacks.

Whenever I ponder The Bear being nominated in the comedy category for the Emmys, it feels like a stomach ulcer is forming,” she wrote.

Although Hannah didn’t win her acting award, Hacks took home the last award of the night – the Outstanding Comedy Series honor.
