SNL Star Apologizes to Aimee Lou Wood After White Lotus Sketch Controversy
Aimee Lou Wood shares that she’s now received an apology from the popular Saturday Night Live actress, Sarah Sherman, following a recent emotional incident in London.
A few days following her criticism of SNL’s supposedly harsh and humorless White Lotus parody that contained an unkind jest about her teeth, the 31-year-old British actress shared that Sherman had offered a kind gesture in return.
Wood expressed gratitude for the lovely bouquet she received from Sherman, as seen in the picture she shared on her Instagram Story.
Earlier, Wood clarified to her followers that she wasn’t criticizing Sherman personally when she defended the depiction in her comedy routine. Instead, she was addressing the idea behind the sketch itself.
She posted on her Instagram Story this week, ‘The humor was centered around fluoride. It’s my wide gaps, not decayed teeth.’ However, one might wonder if there isn’t a more intelligent, subtler, and less juvenile approach to the topic?
Previously, Wood stated that she received an apology from SNL, but did not say from who.
Since Wood spoke out against the sketch, Sherman has come under fire for mocking Wood’s teeth.
Fans of Wood have flooded Sherman’s social media accounts to call out how she portrayed Wood.
One upset Instagram user commented on Sherman’s post, saying that making fun of Aimee’s physical appearance is really distasteful. Instead, you should be critiquing her characters, not her as a person.
Another wrote: ‘Mocking a woman’s appearance? Do better.’
‘Will Aimee be getting an apology for your really unfunny impersonation?’ A third asked.
A fourth accused Sherman of not being a ‘a girl’s girl’ for participating in bodyshaming in 2025.
‘That Aimee Lou bit was a rare miss. Pointlessly cruel. We expect better,’ a fifth chimed in.
Responding to the remark, a different Instagram user intervened, explaining that although it might have been inappropriate, it wasn’t solely ‘Sarah’s decision.’

On Sunday evening, the lead actress from The White Lotus took to social media to express her disapproval and criticism towards a particular comedy show, following an episode where Sherman impersonated Aimee with oversized false teeth.
As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but express my feelings when the show poked fun at my idol, the brilliant star of Sex Education. Taking to her Insta Story, she didn’t mince words, firmly addressing SNL and clarifying the swirling rumors concerning HBO.
Following the actress gaining widespread attention due to her criticism of the “rude and humorless” sketch, she asserted that Saturday Night Live (SNL) had contacted her as a gesture of reconciliation.
Accompanying an altered selfie where her eyes and mouth appeared enlarged, she wrote: “SNL has apologized to me.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but be captivated by the vivid scene titled “The White Potus.” This masterpiece paints a picture of the Trump dynasty and notable political figures unwinding in their time off, right there at the renowned vacation spot.

In a fresh interpretation, the character Rick, originally played by Walton Goggins, has been transformed into Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was portrayed delivering an impassioned speech advocating for the removal of all fluoride from our drinking water.
Next, the camera focused on the character Chelsea, portrayed by Sarah, who sported overly prominent front teeth. She exclaimed in surprise, “What’s this fluoride?
It’s too bad because I genuinely enjoyed it a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely poke fun, that’s what the show is for, but couldn’t there be a more intelligent, subtle, and less crass approach?
Additionally, she disclosed supportive messages from her fans and sister Emily, acknowledging that she had been overwhelmed with ‘countless’ messages expressing solidarity.
Aimee added, “I won’t discuss this topic further. I don’t have a sensitive nature. In fact, I enjoy good-natured humor when it’s smart and lively. However, the joke was about fluoride, but my teeth are noticeably spaced, not decayed.
I’m fine with SNL’s caricatures, I get that’s their style. However, the remainder of the sketch seemed to target others while leaving Chelsea as the only one being targeted. That’s all I wanted to say.
‘The act was witty and amusing until it abruptly shifted towards the sexist attitudes of the 1970s.’ She concurred with this sentiment.
She concluded by quoting a viewer’s comment: ‘It started out as an entertaining and humorous performance, but then it unexpectedly veered into 1970s misogyny.’ This reflects her perspective.

Previously, Aimee expressed additional views about the subject, confessing to her audience that she found the Saturday Night Live skit both harsh and humorless while being truthful.
Following her indication that she might erase the post later as she felt self-assured, spectators urged her to keep it up.
Keep it, someone suggested. It was rude and not amusing; speaking it aloud takes away its influence.
You are exceptional in every aspect, and despite having a gap between my front teeth and an overbite, you’ve truly boosted my self-confidence.”
Or alternatively,
“You’re extraordinary all around, and even with my slightly misaligned teeth, you’ve made me feel fantastic about myself.
They decided, ‘Instead of investing thousands in repairs, I’m choosing not to do so right now. Looking at you, I feel struck by your beauty, so I thought, perhaps I should direct that same thinking towards myself.’
A different user noted, ‘I concur – all the characters in that satire were political figures being lampooned.’
In a non-political manner, Chelsea seemed to be mocking you, specifically your style or accent. This behavior, mocking someone’s personal characteristics, is disrespectful and inappropriate.
Earlier, she clarified that ‘nobody at HBO called’ her ‘ugly.’
She clarified, “That idea was just my overactive imagination,” referring to the interpretation made during a recent interview, which she believes was misunderstood.
The star went on to explain, ‘No one from HBO would make such a statement. In my piece, I aimed to highlight how our minds can deceive us. So, I encourage you to review it thoroughly before jumping to conclusions or becoming upset.’
To wrap up today’s discussion: HBO – always considerate, never wronged me, let’s give them a break. NBCSNL – harsh.
TopMob has contacted NBC for comment.

In her latest conversation with British GQ, Aimee shared that it took some effort from White Lotus creator Mike White to secure her role, an experience that left her feeling uncertain.
She continued: ‘When someone (not a producer) told me Mike fought for me it was said in a nice way.
I’ve been overwhelmed by feelings of self-doubt, or what is commonly known as imposter syndrome, regarding the situation. To clarify, I just wanted to make it clear that HBO has been extremely supportive, and I appreciate their backing.
In the GQ piece, Aimee candidly discussed her feelings of insecurity, expressing, “My small inner voice whispers, ‘HBO rejected me. And I understand why they rejected me, it’s because I’m unattractive.’
She said, “Mike requested, ‘Could I have the unattractive woman?’ That’s what kept running through my mind,” she went on.
In the course of our chat, I shared my thoughts on my unique features – my natural overbite and slightly gapped teeth. At times, I’ve found myself preoccupied, feeling that these traits might inadvertently divert focus away from my performance.
She was concerned that her teeth might be perceived as awkward or strange by some viewers of White Lotus, since she hasn’t gotten them fixed yet.
She expressed her joy at its representation of defiance and liberation, yet acknowledged there’s a boundary to this.

The entire discussion seems solely focused on my teeth, which unfortunately leaves little room for discussing my work, and this feels a tad disheartening to me.
As I ponder upon the compliments about my smile, I can’t help but notice a peculiar pattern. People seem to appreciate it not because they’re offering constructive criticism, but rather due to a lack thereof. In a moment of reflection, I can’t help but wonder if this discourse might be subtly intertwined with the complex tapestry of societal expectations and biases that we know as sexism.
She mentioned, “I need to head over there… I wonder if the person we’re discussing so extensively is male. The conversation keeps revolving around a woman’s physical attributes,” she further commented.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve chosen to embrace my unique features, like my natural buck teeth, rather than succumbing to the pressures of conventional beauty norms often seen in Hollywood.
On The Jonathan Ross Show, the actress expressed amazement, saying: “I’m astonished by the influence my teeth seem to be having. It seems that Americans are particularly captivated by them.
It seems somewhat defiant when White Lotus viewers discuss me and my natural teeth, as they’re surprised to learn I haven’t had veneers or Botox.
