SNL Recap: Weekend Update Slams Stranger Things Josh O’Connor Hosts

As a huge SNL fan, I was really impressed with how musical this week’s episode was! They didn’t just do sketches – the cast was singing a lot, which was a fun surprise. There was this hilarious song about, of all things, getting rid of the Stranger Things cast, and then a really awkward, but funny, number set at brunch. It definitely added a different dimension to the show.

Josh O’Connor’s Monologue

This week on the show, Josh O’Connor – known for his roles in Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Story and The Crown – hosted, with Lily Allen providing the music. O’Connor shared a funny story during his opening remarks: after he casually mentioned liking the movie Ratatouille, fans started a campaign for him to play Alfredo Linguini in a live-action remake. The online demand became so intense that Disney actually issued a statement saying it wouldn’t happen. O’Connor joked about the strange experience of being turned down for a role he never even wanted.

A Musical Weekend Update

This week’s Weekend Update on SNL featured a surprising performance from cast member Jane Wickline. She joined Colin Jost and Michael Che to playfully warn the audience about a supposed threat: the cast of Stranger Things. Through a song, Wickline joked that as the show ends and its young stars grow up, they’ll inevitably replace all older actors. She even made a humorous reference to Finn Wolfhard being the devil, implying his rising star power.

A Year In Review From Uber Eats

A particularly funny sketch this week parodied Spotify Wrapped, but instead of music, it showed what the SNL cast ordered through Uber Eats in the past year – and how much they spent. The results felt very real, as the characters were surprised – and not in a good way – by how much money they’d spent on food delivery and how much junk food they’d eaten.

Variety’s Actors On Actors SNL-Style

Saturday Night Live created a fun take on Variety’s ‘Actors on Actors’ series. In a new sketch called ‘Characters on Characters,’ famous Christmas figures had conversations with each other. The sketch featured characters from classic Christmas songs, stories, and movies. For example, Tiny Tim interviewed the Little Drummer Boy, and the Grinch and Scrooge chatted about their lives.

Last Impressions

This week’s Saturday Night Live had both funny and less successful moments. The sketches mentioned above were some of the best parts of the show. Although the episode had a festive holiday feel, some scenes felt awkward, like a brunch where everyone sings what they’re thinking, or a bachelorette party with strippers who are a little too easily offended.

Saturday Night Live airs every Saturday at 11:30 PM ET and 8:30 PM PT on NBC.
