‘SNL’ alum Bill Hader reveals the reason behind his absence during anniversary special

Bill Hader himself disclosed an authentic explanation behind his absence at the glittering primetime event honoring the 50th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live”. Contrary to earlier claims made by his representative, it was not due to scheduling issues.

On “Late Night With Seth Meyers” on Monday, Hader revealed that Andy Samberg proposed a digital short about the stress experienced by SNL cast members. The actor famous for roles like Stefon admitted he was hesitant to participate as he already feels anxious.

Instead, Bowen Yang starred in the short film that aired during the special.

“And he was great,” Hader said.

During the “SNL” special, Hader and Meyers humorously implied another reason for Hader’s absence was his ‘shingles brought on by anxiety.’ The host playfully added that if Hader had been there, he would have gotten ‘two instances of shingles.’

For eight seasons spanning from 2005 to 2013, Hader was part of the “SNL” acting troupe. After departing from the show, he’s been candid about the challenges he faced with regards to mental health while working at Studio 8H.

Meyers said that his co-star on “SNL” had a “relentless list of maladies.”

Bill Hader was involved in the most bizarre incidents that I’ve encountered among any cast members I’ve worked with, according to him.

Hader continued discussing the incident where he lost his vision during his initial season on the show, which took place as he waited with fellow stars Jason Sudeikis, stuntman Johnny Knoxville, and musician Neil Young before filming the “Appalachian Emergency Room” sketch backstage.

The sketch went on, with Sudeikis taking Hader’s lines and moving Hader to his mark.

“[Sudeikis] was very sweet,” Hader told Meyers.

After departing from “SNL”, Hader took part in creating and appeared on the critically acclaimed HBO series “Barry”. Next up, he’ll lend his voice to the main character in the upcoming animated movie “The Cat in the Hat”, which is scheduled for release in February.
