As someone who has witnessed the impact of smoking on both my personal and professional life, I strongly believe that celebrities should be mindful about their habits, especially when it comes to smoking.

Concerns have arisen among health professionals, as they worry that the glamorization of smoking by prominent figures may lead to it being perceived as trendy once more, following numerous high-profile individuals being spotted enjoying cigarettes in public.

In recent years, an assortment of stars have been spotted illuminating cigarettes not just in music videos, but also on various social media platforms.

In August, it was noticed that Rosalia generously gave Charli XCX a bouquet of cigarettes as a birthday gift, and photos of this distinctive present were shared on Instagram.

Additionally, Addison Rae featured smoking in the song for her Aquamarine release that came out last month, while actor Channing Tatum was spotted recently with a cigarette between his lips during a public appearance after his separation from Zoe Kravitz.

Dr. Sabrina Solt from Nouveau Wellness Concierge shares her insights with DailyMail.com regarding the increasing trend among celebrities of taking up smoking, and potential explanations for this surge in popularity.

One potential explanation is that societal fads might have played a role. As Solt points out, smoking cigarettes was once considered fashionable when they initially became available in the early 1900s, before it was understood that they posed health risks.

Because smoking is so addictive and often perceived as trendy or cool, it’s a behavior that has persisted over time.

Vaping is often chosen as a supposedly healthier substitute, containing fewer overall harmful substances compared to traditional cigarettes.

Nevertheless, Solt pointed out that there remains a potential threat to an individual’s health, particularly since nicotine levels may be substantially elevated.

She also noted that vaping could have an ‘appeal’ to ‘younger people who may prioritize things like better flavor profiles, less of the cigarette smell, and the ability to do it in many public places where cigarettes are not allowed.’

Over the past couple of decades, alcohol consumption among the younger generation has gradually decreased. However, with the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic, some individuals have started smoking cigarettes instead.

She shared that they resorted to this action as a method to handle the unusually high stress, since these options are legally accessible at a more youthful stage.

After the habit-forming effect of nicotine took hold, it might have become challenging for them to quit, even though they no longer relied on it as a means to manage stress.

It seems that the allure of smoking, often depicted by celebrities smoking in public places, is nothing out of the ordinary.

During the ’90s and the start of the 2000s, it was common to see many famous personalities like Johnny Depp, Kate Moss, Jennifer Aniston, and Gwyneth Paltrow with cigarettes in hand.

In recent times, an increasing number of celebrities appear to have resumed this practice without any apparent need for concealment.

Previous year, Anya Taylor-Joy was seen multiple times smoking, for example, on an excursion alongside her spouse, Malcolm McRae.

Lily-Rose Depp, Johnny Depp’s daughter, has been noticed in public enjoying cigarettes. Last October, the actress was caught on camera smoking with a bunch of friends in a car park.

Recently, internet sensation Addison Rae released the music video for Aquamarine, which she’s been promoting across various online platforms over the past month.

Throughout the video, she was spotted with two cigarettes in her hand, while in another part, she was joined by companions who were also smoking. This occurred even though she has over 88.8 million young followers on TikTok.

In August, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars teamed up for the song “Die With A Smile”. In the album artwork, they are pictured side by side, both dressed to match, with Lady Gaga casually holding a cigarette.

In the music video, Lady Gaga was seen playing the piano and singing powerfully while holding a cigarette in her mouth.

Paul Mescal, set to star in the upcoming sequel Gladiator II, resolutely chose not to stop smoking during the making of this highly-anticipated production.

On the Graham Norton Show not too long ago, the actor from Normal People discussed his body change for the film and shared that he collaborated with a fitness coach, as reported by Us Weekly.

Yet, Mescal confessed that he followed all his instructions, but when it came to drinking and smoking, he set boundaries.

Dua Lipa has openly admitted to her smoking habit. In an Instagram post from August, she posted a photo showing her holding a glass of wine, cards, and a pack of cigarettes.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but voice my opinion on the matter of celebrities and their smoking habits. Just like Solt, I believe they should exercise mindfulness and consider the impact of their actions. After all, their influence extends far beyond the red carpet.

I think it’s important for celebrities to use their public image in a manner that encourages admirers to find inspiration from positive role models.

Although everyone has a fundamental human freedom to make their own choices, as long as they abide by the law, remember that our actions significantly impact those nearby. This influence should never be underestimated.

She explained, ‘smoking is highly addictive, and that nicotine is a toxin that can have negative effects at high doses. Additionally, the thousands of different toxins in cigarettes are linked to cancers and lung disease.’

Based on data from the American Lung Association, smoking is identified as the leading preventable reason for death in the United States, claiming more than 480,000 lives annually.

Secondhand smoking also notably ’causes more than 41,000 deaths in the U.S. each year.’

Regarding the matter of regulating the portrayal of smoking in media, Solt expressed, ‘There are always individuals advocating for stricter rules to influence others’ behaviors.’

‘While that may be effective for some, there will always be people who will do it anyway.’

She added, ‘A more productive strategy might involve providing comprehensive education about the harmful health impacts and expanding availability for addiction treatment programs.’

Amongst celebrities, some continue to smoke, but others who have given it up include Gisele Bündchen, Charlize Theron, and Michael Douglas. (or, Some celebrities smoke regularly, while stars like Gisele Bündchen, Charlize Theron, and Michael Douglas have quit smoking.)
