Smile 2 called “scariest movie of the year” in rave first reactions
As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for horror movies, I must say that the anticipation for Smile 2 has been palpable. Having braved countless virtual haunted houses and slasher games, I can confidently declare that this sequel seems to be the real deal.
The second installment of “Smile” has received thunderous applause after its debut, with one spectator labeling it as the “most terrifying movie of the year.
2022’s horror movie sequel focuses on Skye Riley, a renowned pop artist (portrayed by Naomi Scott), as her life spirals out of control while she is preparing for her worldwide concert tour.
Encountering remnants of her past, Skye encounters the chilling Smile Entity, a phenomenon that makes people eerily grin just before they experience a distressing occurrence.
As the movie is set to premiere in the UK on October 17 and in the US on October 18, initial reactions from viewers are coming in, with many commending director Parker Finn for further enhancing the achievements of its previous installment.
One user on X/Twitter hasn’t been this excited about a concept being fully realized since Challengers. Parker Finn crafts an emotionally intense, spiteful, thrillingly gory, flawlessly filmed sequel with #Smile2, and Naomi Scott gives one of the standout performances of the year.
Another delighted viewer shared, “SMILe 2 left me utterly amazed! It significantly surpassed the first in every aspect: stunning visuals, cleverly timed jump scares, gruesome and intense imagery, and a rich exploration of themes like grief, trauma, and guilt. Naomi Scott delivered an outstanding performance. Without a doubt, it’s the standout horror film of 2024. Wow! #Smile2
Another viewer expressed their excitement after watching the sequel: “I’ve just left the theater following a screening of #Smile2, and let me tell you, I’m absolutely blown away! This year’s scariest film without a doubt. It delivers raw, unbridled terror that outdoes itself in every aspect. It’s brutal, relentless, and emotionally wrenching. Plus, Naomi Scott is giving Toni Collette a run for her money. I stand by my words. #paramount
Besides Scott, the cast for Smile 2 also features Rosemarie DeWitt, Lukas Gage, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, Dylan Gelula and Kyle Gallner. Notably, Kyle Gallner will reprise his role as Joel from the original film.
Smile 2 is in cinemas on October 17 in the UK and October 18 in the US.
