Sly Stone dead at 82: Sly And The Family Stone frontman passes away as cause of death is revealed
1960s funk legend Sly Stone – frontman of Sly And The Family Stone – has passed away at 82.
Stone’s family announced the influential musician’s death in a statement released Monday.
I’ve been living and breathing this news ever since I heard it – the revelation that my beloved idol was fighting a long, hard-fought battle against Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and he was also grappling with other hidden health struggles.
I am deeply saddened to share the news that our cherished father, the esteemed musician known as Sly Stone of Sly and the Family Stone, has sadly passed away.
Following a long struggle with COPD and other health complications, Sly sadly passed away surrounded by his three children, his dearest friend, and extended family. Though we deeply grieve his departure, we find comfort in the knowledge that his remarkable musical influence will endure and inspire future generations.
Sly and the Family Stone, the band that he’s part of, is recognized as a key contributor to the evolution of funk, soul, R&B, rock, and psychedelic music.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but acknowledge that Sly was an extraordinary figure, a pathbreaking innovator, and a genuine trailblazer who reshaped the terrain of pop, funk, and rock music like no other. His timeless melodies have etched an unforgettable impression on the globe, and his impact continues to be unquestionable. In homage to his everlasting creative energy, Sly has recently penned the screenplay for his life story, a venture we are excited to unveil to the world in due time, which mirrors a memoir scheduled for publication in 2024.
‘With heartfelt appreciation, we express thanks for the abundant love and prayers sent our way during these challenging times. May tranquility and unity prevail in the lives of those whose worlds were touched by Sly’s extraordinary music and spirit. From the depths of our souls, we thank you for your unwavering backing.’
