Slow Horses’ star’s “rich and rewarding” new movie debuts with perfect 100% score

The newly released British drama movie titled “My Father’s Shadow“, featuring Sope Dirisu from the show “Slow Horses“, has garnered an outstanding 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes upon its debut.

As a gamer, I’d rephrase that as: “In this narrative penned and directed by Akinola Davies Jr, I find myself immersed in the 1993 Nigerian political climate. The tale weaves around two siblings, portrayed by Godwin Chiemerie Egbo and Chibuike Marvellous Egbo, as they embark on an unexpected journey with their long-lost father, played by Dirisu.

Written collaboratively by Wale Davies, the movie “My Father’s Shadow” made its debut at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, marking a significant milestone as the first Nigerian film ever selected for the festival’s Official Selection. This recognition came after it was put forward for the Caméra d’Or award nomination.

The Hollywood Reporter

Among the most treasured scenes in “My Father’s Shadow” are the secretive instances shared by Folarian and his sons. Although these interactions contain a touch too much emotional narration, their forgivable due to the subtle acting and soft imagery that they convey.

Variety

The Davies brothers have created a legendary character… Dirisu delivers an exceptional performance, one that could make him a highly sought-after actor for future roles, by portraying this mythical figure in a deeply engaging yet understated manner.

Time Out

Both of the youthful performers exhibit exceptional talent effortlessly… Dirisu skillfully portrays a complex character, a man straddling the border between a negligent father and a sanctuary. They are the core of a movie that can whisper softly one moment and thunder loud the next.

IndieWire

Dirisu delivers a captivating act, both poignant and delicate; his character experiences an intensely demanding day, yet his irritation remains contained, devoid of the usual aggressive outbursts often seen in movies portraying remote and authoritative male figures.

Little White Lies

The story’s conclusion relies heavily on some unexpected coincidences towards the end, which leaves a slight desire for more clarity. Despite this minor issue, the movie excels in terms of form and emotion.
