Antonio Aakeel, known for his role in Slow Horses, is starring in a new, single-episode drama for Channel 5. The show is part of the channel’s Play for Today series, which was brought back last year and features original television plays.
One of the new projects is called Closing Time, and it stars Aakeel as Mo, a talented newcomer working at his uncle’s kebab shop.
Mo secretly dreamed of being a chef, but he kept those ambitions to himself. He meets Laila, a lawyer feeling unfulfilled in her relationship (played by Ellora Torchia from House of the Dragon), during a late night at work.

The story starts with a chance meeting that quickly blossoms into a deep connection, fueled by intimate talks and shared moments in the kitchen. Laila inspires Mo to chase his ambitions even as he worries about his visa, and in turn, he pushes her to reconsider the path her life has taken.
Aakeel played Hassan Ahmed in Slow Horses, and has also been in Too Much, Dublin Murders, and Ackley Bridge. Torchia has previously appeared in Silent Witness, The Gold, and Grantchester.

Mina Barber, known for her work on Doctors, wrote Closing Time, and Dan Sloan, who directed Good Behaviour, helmed the project. It’s one of several new plays announced as part of the Play for Today series. Other upcoming titles include the Scottish dramedy Wild, starring Daniel Mays (from Line of Duty), Amit Shah (Happy Valley), and Joel Fry (Game of Thrones).
This story follows three longtime friends on their yearly camping trip, which takes a dark turn when they get lost, supplies dwindle, and old tensions threaten to destroy their friendship. It becomes a struggle for survival, fueled by pride and hidden truths.

Okay, so Channel 5 is really happy with how the first batch of Play for Today films did last year. Apparently, people loved them! And they’re saying this new season is even better, building on all the good stuff from before. As a gamer, I’m excited to see what stories they’re bringing to life this time around!
We’ve assembled a fantastic group of actors, including both established UK stars and exciting new talent. This cast truly represents our commitment to ambitious and diverse storytelling, and I can’t wait to see these stories on screen.
Closing Time will air on Channel 5.
