As a seasoned gamer of the world of streaming services, I’ve seen my fair share of twists and turns, but none quite like the intricate web of deceit that is woven by the denizens of Slough House. The anticipation for each new season has become as much a part of my annual calendar as the changing leaves or the Super Bowl.

As a new year dawns, another accumulation of individuals, unfortunately, finds itself concealed or discarded, much like debris in Slough House. The survivors from the fourth season are busy cleaning and mending, patching up walls and taping over cracked windows, readying themselves for the next chapter – season five. What does this new season hold in store?

To start off, there’s no doubt about it – the popular series “Slow Horses” is set to make a comeback. As confirmed by Apple TV+ (one of the top streaming platforms), production for a fifth season began as early as January 2024.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve been eagerly following this amazing series since its April 2022 debut. The second and third seasons graced our screens in December ’22 and ’23 respectively, followed by the fourth in September ’24. Given the fall release pattern and roughly year-long production cycle, it seems reasonable to anticipate the fifth season around September ’25. I can hardly wait!

In August 2024, Gary Oldman confirmed that filming for season five had been wrapped up. He shared this news with Deadline, stating, “We’ve just concluded shooting season five and with Lamb, we delve deeper into the story, revealing another layer of the mystery as we uncover a bit more about what transpired.

Given that scenario, it’s plausible that with a six-month editing schedule, the fifth season could potentially debut ahead of its typical schedule, perhaps as early as springtime.

Without Gary Oldman portraying Jackson Lamb, there wouldn’t be a show. Fortunately, he has promised to remain part of the series until its production comes to an end.

In an interview with Collider, Jack Lowden, portraying River Cartwright, shared a perspective that mirrors his own: “So long as it remains engaging and audiences continue to be intrigued, I’m game for more, regardless of the subject matter.

Unfortunately, Marcus Longridge, portrayed by Kadiff Kirwan, didn’t survive past season four, which means his character won’t be seen around the Barbican anymore. Similarly, it appears that Joanna Scanlan’s character Moira Tregorian, who is quite busy-bodied, will not be returning after her one-time appearance.

Just as night naturally follows day or how Jackson Lamb consistently has an unidentified scent trailing him, it is inevitable that the fifth season will arrive in perfect timing with Mick Herron’s book series. This implies that the storyline will be derived from book five, “London Rules,” bringing back political machinations involving Peter Judd, portrayed by Samuel West, a series of puzzling terrorist attacks throughout the nation, and significant turmoil for the embattled First Desk, Claude Whelan.

Plus inappropriate humour and botty-burps in (and at) large volume from Jackson Lamb.
