Slow Horses’ Gary Oldman lands exciting new role

As a longtime gamer and fan of both the stage and screen, I can hardly contain my excitement for Gary Oldman’s return to the York Theatre Royal! Having grown up watching his remarkable performances, it’s truly astounding to see him revisit his roots on the very same stage where he began his professional career.

Actor Gary Oldman, who plays the lead in “Slow Horses“, is taking on a fresh, captivating part, as he’s planning to make a comeback on the theater stage.

The actor known for portraying the curmudgeonly character Jackson Lamb on Apple TV+’s series is set to take the stage at York Theatre Royal in a revival of Samuel Beckett’s 1958 play, titled “Krapp’s Last Tape“.

In this one-person production, the story revolves around the main character on his 69th birthday, reflecting on his life while enjoying a glass of wine, a banana, and a tape recorder for company. As he listens to a recording from his younger years, Krapp embarks on a journey of confronting the aspirations he held in the past.

At the start of this year, when Gary came to see us, it was captivating to listen to him share tales from his early days as a professional actor on the York Theatre Royal stage. This is according to Paul Crewes, CEO of York Theatre Royal,” (paraphrased)

As we delved into our discussions, it became apparent that ‘Krapp’s Last Tape’ was an ideal choice for our venture. It brings me great joy to announce that Gary Oldman will grace our stage once more in this fresh adaptation, offering the public a rare and exciting theatrical experience.

On April 14, 2025, the initial showing of “Krapp’s Last Tape” will happen, running until May 17, 2025. Starting from November 16, tickets will be available to the public, but members can start purchasing them five days earlier.

Although Krapp’s Last Tape has wrapped up its run within a month, enthusiasts of Oldman and Slow Horses can look forward to seeing more of Lamb and his agents as the show has been renewed by Apple TV+ for a sixth season.

Global audiences have developed a fond affection for the “Slow Horses,” and I’m thrilled that Gary Oldman will spearhead an illustrious cast for another witty and action-packed journey, as shared by Jay Hunt, Apple TV+’s European creative director.

Slow Horses seasons 1-4 are streaming on Apple TV+.
