Audible has announced a new audio drama based on Heathcliff from Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights. The production, simply called Heathcliff, is being described as a passionate and intense retelling of the famous, troubled character’s story.
I’m so excited about the cast they’ve announced for this new adaptation! Daryl McCormack, who I loved in Peaky Blinders and Wake Up Dead Man, is going to play Heathcliff. And it’s not just him – Charlie Rowe from Slow Horses, Arinzé Kene who was great in The Pass, Gracie Oddie-James (The Lady from the Sea), Sagar Radia (Industry), Raffey Cassidy (The Brutalist), and Tanya Moodie (Silo) are all joining the project. What a lineup!
In Emily Brontë’s novel, the story will reveal what happened to Heathcliff during the years he spent in London before he became consumed by a desire for revenge. This period was a time of potential, independence, and a new kind of romance for him.
What to Read Next
Still reeling from Cathy’s rejection, Heathcliff leaves his home and travels to London, hoping to lose himself in the city. There, he meets Sir Francis Barber, the adopted son of the famous Samuel Johnson, who encourages him to start a new life.
During his journey, he encounters Lord Montgomery, a daring gambler, and Rhoda Pascal, a captivating courtesan. As he pursues wealth and a sense of belonging, he grows closer to Rhoda, which helps him piece together his forgotten past. However, the haunting memory of Cathy continues to pull him back towards his troubled self and the confusing events of Wuthering Heights.

This new production comes from the creators of the popular Audible adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Writer Jessica Oddie-James returns, and Mahalia Belo, who directed The End We Start From, is at the helm.
McCormack described Heathcliff as a fascinating and deeply complex character, making the role a particularly compelling one to perform.
This story explores what happened during his lost years and his path to understanding himself and finding inner peace. I believe this will help listeners empathize with him, even though he’s imperfect. He’s a classic anti-hero, and with this version of ‘Heathcliff,’ you might find yourself feeling deeply sorry for him.

Before the upcoming movie version of Wuthering Heights arrives, starring Margot Robbie as Cathy and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, audiences are already buzzing about Heathcliff as a character.
Emerald Fennell’s new film has sparked debate about the casting of Jacob Elordi, as his character was originally written as a person of color in the book. However, Margot Robbie recently spoke out in support of the decision.
Heathcliff will be available from 12 February, 2026 via Audible.
