Slipknot rocker Sid Wilson details fiery explosion that 'melted' his face, burned his arms

As a seasoned music enthusiast who has attended countless concerts and followed the careers of numerous rockstars, I must admit that Sid Wilson‘s resilience and determination truly inspire me. The story of his accident and subsequent recovery is a testament to the indomitable spirit of artists like him.

Rocker Sid Wilson is going to be looking a little different after badly burning his face last week.

The Slipknot DJ and keyboardist suffered severe burns on his eyebrows and a large portion of his skin when a bonfire on his farm unexpectedly exploded. He mentioned that he doesn’t anticipate requiring surgery or skin grafts to treat his injuries, but remains uncertain about how he will wear the heavy metal band’s distinctive face masks and attire during their ongoing tour.

As per Slipknot’s official site, the band has a concert lined up this Sunday in Pryor, Oklahoma. Despite his injuries, they have promised to perform once again on stage.

47-year-old individual has been sharing updates about his painful healing journey on Instagram, starting by detailing his injuries on a Friday while still connected to different medical equipment at a healthcare center. There, doctors treated his wounds, gathered his medical history, and he revealed that his face and arms sustained severe burns. Additionally, the incident left his eyebrows singed and his mouth blistered.

He mentioned in a video on August 23 that he seems to be allergic to fire, with girlfriend Kelly Osbourne by his side who has been assisting in his recovery. In these videos, the television personality (daughter of rocker Ozzy Osbourne) can be seen applying different ointments and bandages to Wilson’s wounds, helping him bathe, and aiding in removing charred skin from his face.

Wilson carried on by sharing more information via an Instagram Live, comforting followers by stating he was alright as he moved to a superior burn center. Eventually, he went back home and humorously compared his puffed-up look to “affordable Botox.” He mentioned that he had thought about shaving his head due to the situation.

In an interview with Fox Digital News on Wednesday, Wilson advised: “Be careful with fire; it will always prevail in the end.”

I overheard him mentioning that both his entire right arm and half of his left are wrapped up, and he described his lower face as if it had been severely burned or damaged, likening it to a melted appearance from the nose down. However, he shared that the swelling and pain have diminished considerably. Though he admitted he’s had better days, there was an undeniable sense of gratitude for being alive, and he expressed positively that he’s doing well.

The artist shared with reporters that the blast happened following his interaction with a bonfire made of wood in a pile, which is part of his farm located in Iowa, a place where he resides with Osbourne and their one-year-old child named Sidney.

“He mentioned that a few nights prior, he had lit it and let it burn out. The following day, he went to inspect it to see if anything remained. To his surprise, there were some leftover debris near the side. Despite knowing better, he made an error by pouring more gas onto it.”

In the end, his impatience overcame him, causing him to approach the heap rather than maintaining a safe distance. He then stooped down, stretched out, and ignited it.

“It just … woof. Exploded,” he said.

After driving with his family to the closest emergency facility, Wilson eventually needed to be moved to a bigger hospital in Des Moines. This trip was documented on Instagram by him. Later, due to administered painkillers, his memory became vague. In an interview with Fox, Osbourne stated that he was transported to a burn unit in Iowa City, approximately two hours from Des Moines, and stayed there for one night before going home. Since then, she has been caring for him at home.

Wilson stated, “I won’t let it make me feel downhearted.” He continued, “What’s most challenging is realizing my own foolishness for doing it. … It’s not so much the pain part. It feels like, ‘Wow, I truly learned that lesson the hard way.’ I need to remember to just take things slowly at times and really think through the situation before jumping in without thinking.”

It seems that Wilson has experience with continuing performances despite injuries. Previously, he toured even with two fractured heels, an injury sustained from jumping onto a concrete stage during the initial concert of the tour.

“I finished the show for 45 minutes, on my feet, and then finished the tour in a wheelchair.”

On Tuesday, Osbourne shared Instagram stories featuring Wilson’s initial trip to a nail salon, and he applied several filters to change his look.

In a different video, she expressed her pride in him for getting ready so they could go out. However, when she complimented his appearance, he chuckled at her. Subsequent footage showed her caring for his open wounds.
