Sleeping Dogs Movie Unlikely to Happen According to Donnie Yen

Approximately eight years have passed since the initial announcement of the Sleeping Dogs movie, yet we’ve only received one update about it from Donnie Yen, who played roles in Ip Man, John Wick, and Rogue One, back in 2018. Currently, there are concerns that the film might not come to fruition at all.

Yen shared with Polygon that they had dedicated considerable time, effort, and even personal funds towards collaborating with these producers, securing drafts and rights in the process. After a long wait spanning multiple years, they expressed their eagerness to bring their ideas to life. However, as fate would have it, Hollywood’s complexities left them uncertain about moving forward after investing so much time on the project. It was truly unfortunate.

It appeared in 2021 that the film adaptation of Sleeping Dogs was still a certainty, with filming scheduled for 2022 according to producers. However, as time passed, it became clear that this wasn’t going to happen, and it seems the project has ultimately disintegrated. Yen didn’t provide specific reasons for the movie’s inability to take off, but there could have been several factors that failed to align.

In the game titled “Sleeping Dogs”, you assume the role of Wei Shen, a covert police officer, tasked with penetrating and dismantling criminal Triad organizations in Hong Kong. First released on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in 2012, it received an enhanced version known as the “Definitive Edition” for Xbox One and PS4 in 2014, which included all additional content for the game. The game was fantastic, but much like its cinematic counterpart, a sequel appears to be nothing more than wishful thinking.
