Sky’s Got To Dance star dies aged 45 as group confirms sad news and fellow dancers pay tribute
45-year-old Leon Heywood, a performer from the Sky’s Got To Dance show, has sadly passed away. His dance troupe shared the unfortunate news about his demise on Wednesday.
Leon belonged to the Trinity Warriors Dance Academy, which made it to the semifinals of a competition held in 2011.
Throughout the performer’s stint in the show, judges Davina McCall, Kimberly Wyatt, and Ashley Banjo from Diversity expressed immense admiration for his dance routines. They praised the group’s acts as “the finest performances seen during a live round so far”.
On Facebook, it was announced on Wednesday that we sadly confirm the death of Leon Heywood, a founding father of our academy.
Leon was truly extraordinary; his influence reached everyone, from students to parents, enthusiasts, and the entire dance community. He served as an inspiration for countless individuals, always offering unwavering support.
For numerous individuals, he transcended the role of a dance instructor. He served as a guide, a confidant, an inspiration, and even for some, he was like a father figure or an older sibling. And he cherished each and every one of you deeply.
In their words, Leon significantly influenced those around him. He not only molded us into the dancers we are now, but also played a crucial role in shaping us as individuals, contributing to who we have become today.
‘His pupils have achieved remarkable feats, regardless of whether or not one pursued a career in dance. He took pride in us all for our accomplishments.’
Despite the mystery surrounding his demise, they conveyed: ‘The revelation of his departure has left us all in disbelief, yet Leon was a devoted man of faith and God, now finding tranquility in heaven. He would prefer us to recall fondly the wonderful moments we’ve shared together.’
To put it simply, the Trinity Warriors and Academy don’t just boast about the exceptional dancing skills of our members; what truly matters is the sense of camaraderie and belonging within our dance collective.
‘In addition, let Leon’s family and dear ones have space to mourn during these tough times. We’re reading all your messages of condolence and they mean a lot to us at this difficult moment.’
Let’s honor Leon, whose life we all celebrate, and his memory shall endure eternally…May you rest in perpetual peace, Leon, known as ‘Boogie’. Until forever.
Leon leaves behind two children and his wife who he has been married to for just short of 13 years.
As per his Instagram profile, besides being a dancer, he was additionally certified as a Level 3 Personal Trainer and Fitness Coach at Groove Theory Fitness.
Taking to Facebook tributes poured in as his family and friends shared their sadness.
They wrote: “Truly heartbroken, Leon was an exceptional individual. He possessed remarkable patience, kindness, and humor… His absence will be deeply felt. My sympathies are with everyone at Trinity, as well as Leon’s loved ones and friends, with much love xxx
Among the most treasured moments of my journey in breaking were shared with the Trinity crew, and Leon was undeniably a genuine spirit among us. I’ll always remember Boogie, may he rest in peace.
Dear former comrade, it’s been a while since we last fought together, but I still think about the good old days. You’ve done so much for me and everyone in our circle, and I truly appreciate it.
I’m profoundly sorrowful upon learning about Leon’s demise. He was an extraordinary educator, consistently showing patience and possessing a heart full of kindness. My sympathies and well-wishes go out to his loved ones as they navigate through this challenging period.
