Longtime news broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan announced that he’s been diagnosed with advanced-stage prostate cancer (stage 4).
Murnaghan, known for delivering news on various platforms such as the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky, and previously hosting “Eggheads,” took advantage of today’s announcement to urge males to undergo regular check-ups.
He shared some private updates, mentioning that he was recently diagnosed with late-stage, progressive prostate cancer, which he posted on his social media account.
I’m incredibly lucky to be under the exceptional care of a medical team that I can’t express enough gratitude towards. They provide top-notch treatment with skill, kindness, and empathy.
I’m really appreciative of their outstanding care, and I’m doing quite well as a result. I’m incredibly grateful for the immense love and backing from my wife, family, and closest companions.

It goes without saying that I strongly urge men above fifty years old, those in high-risk categories, or exhibiting symptoms to undergo testing. It’s also important to advocate for regular prostate screenings by the NHS. Early detection is vital, as this disease can sometimes advance quickly, even without evident symptoms.
He pointed people towards the pages for Prostate Cancer UK and Prostate Cancer Research.

Murnaghan further mentioned his intention of joining the Tour De 4, a charitable cycling competition established by Sir Chris Hoy, who has been diagnosed with advanced-stage prostate cancer.
The occasion is scheduled for this coming Sunday, specifically on the 7th of September. For additional details and options to contribute, please visit the official site.
2023 saw the BBC soap opera EastEnders introduce a prostate cancer narrative for character Alfie Moon. Actor Shane Richie shared a heartwarming story about how one viewer was inspired to get checked due to this storyline, leading to an early diagnosis that potentially saved their life from a possibly fatal outcome.
