Skeleton Crew taps Mick Giacchino, son of Rogue One’s composer, for its music
As a longtime Star Wars enthusiast with a soft spot for musical scores that perfectly encapsulate the spirit of a story, I can hardly contain my excitement over the news that Mick Giacchino will be composing the music for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew! The son of legendary composer Michael Giacchino, who has graced us with the unforgettable scores of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and numerous other beloved films, it’s safe to say that Mick has some pretty big shoes to fill – but I have full faith that he’ll do just that!
It looks like the music of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is staying in the family of a familiar face!
Today on StarWars.com, it was announced that Mick Giacchino will be the composer for the upcoming series. If his name seems familiar, it’s because he is the son of Michael Giacchino, who has worked on numerous beloved films such as The Incredibles, Up, and various movies within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Notably, Michael Giacchino also created the score for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, complete with its clever wordplay.
It’s important to clarify that Mick’s talent isn’t any less than his father’s. In fact, Mick has made a name for himself with his successful composition of the series “Max” (specifically, “The Penguin”), which recently concluded. His repertoire doesn’t only consist of dark and somber pieces; he’s also thrived under Disney’s umbrella, working on the miniseries “Zootopia+” and the short “Zootopia: Hot Pursuit”. A standout in his discography is the TV series “The Muppets Mayhem”, which is significant because it has been confirmed that “Skeleton Crew” will employ practical puppets. One such character confirmed is the Teek, first introduced in “Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure”. Mick has previously scored a show for puppets, demonstrating his ability to infuse whimsy into the production. This diverse body of work sets the tone for “Skeleton Crew”, a show that could encompass a wide range of emotions.
Mick Giacchino revealed to StarWars.com that among the few individuals he shared his exciting news with was his father, who offered him a single piece of guidance: “From the get-go, he essentially said, ‘Make sure you enjoy the process,’ emphasizing this advice due to the unique nature of the show. He was incredibly supportive.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew arrives on Disney+ on December 3.
