Skeleton Crew: Jude Law’s character has multiple names
As a lifelong Star Wars enthusiast who has weathered the ups and downs of this galaxy far, far away, I must say that the intrigue surrounding Jod Na Nawood in “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” has me on the edge of my seat. With the rich history of Force users hiding their identities to evade Imperial scrutiny, it’s not uncharted territory, but the enigmatic nature of Jod certainly piques my interest.
In the Star Wars universe set after Order 66, there are numerous Force-wielding individuals hiding and using different identities to evade the Imperial forces. The question arises: Is the new character in “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” named Jod Na Nawood actually one of these hidden Force users? This possibility has been hinted at, as Star Jude Law himself suggested that his character adopts various names.
At D23 Expo 2024, Law discussed his character for Rotten Tomatoes through Collider. He clarified that he portrays a character named Jod, though there are other names associated with him as well. This individual is encountered by others who are attempting to return to their home planet. However, it’s unclear whether they can trust him or not, as his allegiances may be uncertain. Regardless, Jod is considered part of the crew, and some members welcome him, while others do not.
In his journey, Jod might adopt a new identity similar to other Jedi such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Caleb Dume. Notably, Obi-Wan was known as “Ben” during the original trilogy and in the show Obi-Wan Kenobi. Caleb Dume has appeared in the comic series Kanan: The Last Padawan and in the initial episode of The Bad Batch, titled “Aftermath.” In any tale you choose, this young Jedi apprentice assumes the name Kanan Jarrus, a key figure among the crew of the Ghost in the series Star Wars Rebels.
It’s intriguing to consider that we’re unsure of the type of Force user Jod might be. There’s no definitive evidence suggesting he was a former Jedi. Instead, it’s possible he discovered his Force-sensitivity post-Empire takeover and lacked formal training. Perhaps he could be one of the children from The Path, like those we saw in Obi-Wan Kenobi, offering a fresh perspective on the hidden Jedi narrative.
We’ll have to wait until December 3 when Skeleton Crew comes to Disney+.
