Skeleton Crew: Is Jod Na Nawood actually a villain?
As a long-time Star Wars enthusiast who’s spent countless hours dissecting every detail of this galaxy far, far away, I must say that Bradley’s theory about Jod Na Nawwod in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew resonates deeply with me.
Today, let’s delve into an intriguing perspective that seems so intuitive I almost feel embarrassed for not seeing it earlier. We’ll be exploring a potential plotline for the upcoming “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” specifically focusing on the character of Jod Na Nawwod, portrayed by Jude Law.
On an ordinary Monday evening, I tuned into my beloved Star Wars podcast, Gold Squadron Gays, which always gets me hyped. Instead of discussing The Acolyte as usual, they were gearing up for their routine episode 0 on Skeleton Crew, sharing their theories and opinions ahead of its release. A thought-provoking idea popped up from one of the hosts, Bradley, that hadn’t crossed my mind before:
Is Star Wars: Skeleton Crew‘s Jod Na Nawood actually a villain?
There is some strong language in the above video. Listener discretion is advised.
Bradley shares his thoughts on Jude Law not being a Jedi, hinting instead that he believes Law might take on a more complex role, such as an antagonist. As they delve into the character of Long John Silver in Treasure Island and its adaptations like Treasure Planet, both Bradley and Charles explore the intricacies of such characters.
Bradley mentions that he believes Jude Law will portray a character resembling Long John Silver, where the narrative unfolds with him being friendly towards the main character, often acting like a mentor or a surrogate father. The kids in this story seem to develop a close bond with Jude Law’s character, who comes across as an exciting and adventurous figure.
Bradley points out that, on further investigation, it turns out that he is more interested in self-gain – be it treasures or whatever they are all seeking. In conclusion, Bradley predicts that, as a spoiler for Treasure Island, he will ultimately have to give up the treasure to save the children’s lives.
This is such a sound theory, especially for the character of Wim. Wim is very much the Jim Hawkins character of Skeleton Crew. While he does have a father, Wendle, his dad is overworked and not there for him. Episode 1, “This Could Be A Real Adventure,” sets up Wim’s longing for family as he watches Neel and his completed family of two parents and siblings. The series opener also quickly established Wim’s love of stories, particularly Jedi stories. He wants to be a great adventurer and save lives like the Jedi Knights of his book.
In the closing moments of episode 2, “Beyond the Barrier,” Jod makes an appearance. He’s holed up in his prison cell, ear tuned to the children’s lively discussion about pirates who claim At Attin as the fabled planet of hidden riches. It’s at this moment he discloses his powers and decides to aid the kids.
Jod is reminiscent of Long John Silver from Treasure Island and carries an enigma similar to characters in Star Wars. It’s uncertain if he was a former Jedi, a member of the Secret Order, or simply someone who naturally harnessed the Force without formal training. However, given his nature, it seems appropriate for him to discover how to utilize his abilities for the greater good rather than personal gain. Bradley has brilliantly put forward this theory.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed and observe if this happens. Meanwhile, why not explore Gold Squadron Gays’ fascinating coverage of “The Acolyte” and other exceptional Star Wars series? Once the next installment of “Skeleton Crew” is available on Disney+, we can tune in again!
