Six the Musical is rolling out at cinemas this month – and we’ve seen it
In the realm of gaming, I found myself immersed in a captivating tale spun around one of England’s most contentious monarchs – none other than King Henry VIII. It’s no shocker that this musical was created, given his colorful and action-packed life story. Every schoolkid knows, this king swapped vows an astounding six times during his reign from 1509 to 1547, making for quite the dramatic plotline!
In defiance of the stance against divorce by the Catholic Church, he broke away to form the Church of England and became its leader himself. His marital woes, including the execution of two of his wives, have been a recurring subject in school lessons for centuries.
However, when the innovative musical “SIX” debuted in 2017, it presented the tale in a fresher, more entertaining manner, thanks to its entirely singing and dancing female ensemble.

As a gamer, I found myself captivated by the screen adaptation of the Vaudeville Theatre’s production, spotlighting the six enigmatic wives. Each actor shared their unique perspective on witnessing the stage show ascend in fame, from our humble beginnings as unrecognized talents at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to gracing the prestigious stage of The Royal Albert Hall.
As the program begins, they debate among themselves about who experienced harder times. Each character narrates their story using contemporary examples, like “He wasn’t fond of my profile picture,” making it relatable for a younger audience and allowing us to grasp how they arrived at their current situations.
Each of Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Catherine Parr has a poignant story to share. In time, they find solace in one another and come to understand that unity is stronger than adversity; their bond deepens into an act of solidarity and sisterhood.
Ever since its swift ascent to fame, the musical SIX has garnered numerous honors, such as two Tony Awards and five Olivier nominations. Not only does it consistently fill seats at its base in London’s West End, but the show also continues to perform across the UK, Europe, and even made a successful debut on Broadway.
If you’re still unimpressed, here’s more exciting news: Starting April 6th nationwide, SIX The Musical Live! will be playing on big screens in cinemas across the country. The original cast’s live performance has been captured for your viewing pleasure.
Writers Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, who wrote the SIX musical during their final year at Cambridge University, have just unveiled a fresh new song titled “My Girls” as it synchronizes with the movie’s premiere.
SIX the Musical Live! opens in cinemas nationwide on Sunday 6 April.
Yesterday at London’s Ham Yard Hotel, ‘My Girls’ made its debut during the live premiere of SIX the Musical. This song is set to be officially released on Thursday, 3rd April, and will be accessible for streaming and download on all primary music platforms.
Tickets to all international productions of SIX are available via sixthemusical.com.
