Sister Wives star Janelle Brown, 55, gets emotional about the death of her son Garrison, 25, six months ago
As a dedicated follower of Sister Wives, I have always admired Janelle Brown for her strength and resilience. However, reading about her recent tribute to her late son Garrison Brown has left me deeply saddened and touched by her heartfelt words.
Sister Wives star Janelle Brown shared an emotional tribute to her late son Garrison Brown.
The post, commemorating half a year since his self-inflicted death at the age of 25, stirred his mother’s thoughts about living without him.
6 months have passed since you left, and yet your presence is constant in my photo albums, appearing daily. There are times when it feels as if you never departed. (This 55-year-old posted this message in the caption)
‘And then I remember I won’t be getting a call or text from you and it all comes rushing back.’
For six months now, the TLC star has been experiencing a series of firsts following the discovery of her son’s passing in his Flagstaff, Arizona residence back in March.
She finished by saying, ‘Despite your valiant effort, you ultimately had to move on. I hold you very dear, and I’ll reunite with you once my path has come to an end.’
In simpler terms, the comment area overflowed with encouraging words and fans expressing their grief after losing dear ones due to suicide.
‘Thank you for not asking him why. Just that it’s ok that he needed to leave. Acceptance. Love. Respect,’ one fan wrote.
‘”I know you fought hard but in the end you just couldn’t stay.” This got me. Even through the immense amount of pain, there’s no judgement. You’re an incredible, loving mom. He knew that, so do the rest of your children,’ another fan commented.
Her fans are in her corner, letting her know they pray for her.
‘Tomorrow marks four years since my son has been away. I’ve sent my prayers to you and your loved ones. The journey may be difficult, but remember that goodness resides in God.’
Another individual expressed, ‘It’s hard for me to comprehend your day-to-day struggles, yet something I’ve shared before and will repeat: He was truly fortunate to have you ❤️.’
This past summer, Meri Brown, who used to be Janelle’s sister-in-law, mentioned that they’ve had a mix of difficult and better days in their process of coping with their loss.
‘I just feel so much for Janelle — I watched my mom lose two of her own kids before she passed. It’s tragic,’ she shared on the Miss Understood podcast in June.
‘I think there’s good days and bad days, I don’t know how there couldn’t be,’ she went on.
Whenever I come across a photo of Garrison, my heart skips a beat and I can’t help but say to myself, “If only things could have turned out differently for him. It’s such a pity.” My admiration for him remains unwavering despite the circumstances.
Meri explained that grief is ‘different for every situation.’
In this challenging phase, it’s crucial for me to prioritize my needs. I’ll face the discomfort head-on, let the tears flow when necessary, seek solitude when needed, and when I feel better, I’ll step out for a refreshing walk.
Meri also stressed that grief is not a linear process.
‘People often imagine a specific box as their life container. However, grief doesn’t follow a straight path or a list of steps; instead, it encompasses a multitude of feelings that can surface at any moment.’
She noted that while life may improve over time, the affection felt for the departed can never be replicated.
‘Many might advise, “You’ll overcome it, you’ll progress beyond it.” Indeed, you will, but I believe there remains a void that was left behind, one that people claim will eventually heal. However, I think this void will persist indefinitely.’
On March 5, Garrison took his own life by shooting himself in the head. He was buried a week after that.
At the time of his demise, Garrison had a blood alcohol content exceeding three times the U.S.’s legal limit (0.08%) due to ethanol intoxication, making it a significant contributing factor.
