Christine Brown has admitted that she and ex-husband Kody Brown are blood relatives.
On Sunday’s episode of Sister Wives, Christine, age 53, revealed to her husband, David Woolley, that it had been four years since she divorced Kody, who is 56.
Growing up, being related to Kody meant I always knew my options were limited when it came to finding a partner within our community. It was just a reality that I’d likely need to marry someone who wasn’t raised in the church, simply because, well, I was related to pretty much everyone already in it!
However, she added, ‘I did marry a convert, but I was still related to him too.’
“That’s not right,” David said, but his wife quickly pointed out, “Marrying your third cousin once removed is completely legal. Completely.”
Kody and Christine Brown have six children together: Aspyn Thomas, Mykelti Padron, Paedon Brown, Gwendlyn Queiroz, Ysabel Brown, and Truely Brown.
Janelle Brown, who was once married to and close friends with Christine, stood up for her relationship with Kody, even though they shared family connections.
She mentioned a running joke that they were cousins, but pointed out their family connection was extremely distant and hardly believable.
And she added, ‘I think in polygamist families, this kind of stuff happens all the time.’
Janelle explained that they weren’t close – they barely saw each other, even at family gatherings. It was a very detached relationship.
‘But they would always joke about being cousins. It just is a small community.’
Christine went public with now-husband David via social media in February 2023.
It came after she and Kody separated in November 2021 after more than 25 years together.
The mother of six found love again with David, who she met online, and they got married in October 2023.
She excitedly shared after the wedding that she’d never been happier and that she truly loved being in a committed, one-on-one relationship, feeling like it was perfectly suited for her.
Besides ending his relationship with Christine, Kody Brown also separated from his first wife, Meri Brown, and his second wife, Janelle.
Janelle and Kody split up in December 2022, and Kody’s divorce from Meri was finalized back in 2014.
Kody ‘spiritually married’ Christine in 1994.
She announced in late 2021 that she had ‘made the difficult decision to leave’ the marriage.
On Twitter, Kody said, ‘Christine’s decision to leave comes with a great deal of sadness.’
In total, the TLC personality has 18 children across his four marriages.
