Sir Richard Branson, 75, displays nasty injury after running ‘face first’ into a window in painful mishap

Sir Richard Branson shared a photo of his bruised cheek after accidentally running into a window at one of his New York hotels this week.

The 75-year-old businessman, Richard Branson, shared photos on Instagram of his injured face after an accident, but he remained positive and joked about the situation.

Sir Richard was eager to talk to one of his colleagues, and in his rush to catch them, he accidentally ran into a window, leaving a handprint on the glass.

He shared a playful story, saying, ‘Have you heard the one about the man who ran into a window? It really hurt him… And this week, that man was me!’

I was at Virgin Hotels NYC having dinner with the Planetary Gardens team, and we were talking about some really interesting new developments in sustainable farming from Holganix. As we were talking, the Holganix team actually walked by!

I was rushing to introduce someone to the group and, unfortunately, ran straight into a window! Both the window and I were pretty shaken up by the impact.

Elizabeth was quick to catch me when I stumbled, and we both had a good laugh about it later. Luckily, I wasn’t seriously hurt, I’m feeling okay, and the cut is already healing. I’ll definitely be more careful next time!

This news follows a recent tragedy for Sir Richard, who was deeply saddened to learn of a chef’s death in a crash on his private Caribbean island.

Sihle Somdaka, a 37-year-old executive sous chef, died after an accident on Necker Island, Richard Branson’s private island. It appears he lost control of an electric buggy.

The father of two, who was quickly becoming well-known as a talented chef, had just been to a lively farewell party at the Great House on the island. This grand estate used to be owned by Branson and his wife, Joan.

Authorities in the British Virgin Islands are now conducting a thorough investigation into the recent tragedy, which has deeply affected the small community on the islands.

According to a source, Sir Richard Branson wasn’t present on Necker Island when the incident happened, but he has been regularly communicating with the family and his team there.

The billionaire was reportedly very upset by the incident, which happened late Friday night.

The accident happened just before midnight. Somdaka had left the party and was driving one of the resort’s electric golf carts down a steep hill when it crashed.

Medical personnel from a nearby island and a doctor quickly responded to perform CPR on Somdaka before they transported him by boat to Peebles Hospital on Tortola.

Tragically, he was later pronounced dead after sustaining a head injury.

According to a source, staff at the island are collaborating with local officials to understand the events of that night. A thorough investigation is currently underway to determine what occurred.

However, a source suggested that a lavish and unrestrained environment on the billionaire’s island contributed to the tragic deaths.

They’ve faced a lot of dangerous situations over the years… It was inevitable eventually, but it still shouldn’t have happened, they explained.

Originally from Cape Town, Somdaka impressed diners worldwide, including in luxury restaurants in Doha and Kuwait, before becoming a key chef at Richard Branson’s Caribbean resort.

Only a few days before the incident, he shared bright, cheerful photos online of himself having fun on the island-jet skiing and relaxing on the beautiful beaches-with the simple caption, ‘Caribbean life.’

A representative from Virgin Limited Edition shared that a member of their team at Necker Island tragically died on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of a truly gifted and wonderful member of the Necker Island team.

We’re deeply concerned for the wellbeing of everyone affected – their loved ones, as well as our own team – and we’re providing all possible support during this incredibly challenging time.
