Heather Mills, former wife of Sir Paul McCartney, disclosed an incident where a fellow train traveler criticized her for using excess space due to her prosthetic limb.
Previously wedded to the legendary Beatle for six years up until 2008, she decided to post about an embarrassing episode on Instagram.
Ever since I tragically lost my lower left leg in a collision with a police motorcycle in London more than three decades ago, I’ve become a passionate crusader for the rights of amputees and advancements in prosthetic limb technology.
During the weekend, Heather disclosed that she found herself in an awkward situation involving a disagreement with another traveler on the train when he took issue with her extending her legs.
Heather, who is 57 years old, mentioned that a man had commented on her leg, not realizing that one of her legs was actually a prosthesis – a consequence of the life-altering car accident she experienced back in 1993.
In the video taken on the South Western Railway train, Heather sported a red tracksuit and had yellow-tinted spectacles framing her face.
She started speaking out, addressing anyone who’s found themselves irritated while commuting by train due to a tall woman with long legs, who seems to be stretching them excessively.
The issue here arises as you can’t easily insert your leg due to the underside of the prosthetic device causing discomfort or pain by pressing against the back of your leg.
‘So just think twice before you turn your nose up.’
She went on saying, “A fellow was whining at me to shift my limb. I attempted to clarify, but he refused to comprehend. Eventually, I removed my leg – and he fell silent.
In the recently-filmed video from this past weekend, she talks composedly into the camera, occasionally displaying exasperation by lifting her hand, while narrating the strange conversation that unfolded.
In 2002, Heather achieved international recognition upon marrying Macca. Their marriage ended in a highly publicized divorce in 2008, with her receiving a £24.3 million settlement as part of the divorce proceedings.
Post-divorce, she has channeled her energy primarily into her professional pursuits and advocacy. This includes establishing a vegan food enterprise and championing causes such as animal rights and advancements in prosthetic technology.
She is now in a relationship with Mike Dickman, a film producer nearly two decades her junior.
In 2019, the pair were initially spotted together, and they’ve been frequently observed in each other’s company since then. They tend to look quite affectionate during public appearances, suggesting a strong bond between them.
Previously, Heather has discussed the day-to-day difficulties she encounters due to her prosthetic limb, explaining that achieving comfort and mobility sometimes necessitates modifications that might not be instantly clear to others.
In 2023, Heather was recognised as the fastest disabled female skier on the planet.
She clocked in a staggering speed of 102.5mph (164.95 km/h) in Vars, southeast France, in 2015.
The successful attempt by the former model was recognised in the Guinness Book of World Records.
In 2010, when she was 42 years old, two years following her divorce from the renowned Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney, she commenced her professional skiing career in competitions.
In spite of being quite old, she managed to secure 4 gold medals at the 2012 Skiing World Championship held in Aspen, triumphing in both the super giant slalom and downhill racing competitions.
Skiing represents the quickest sport that doesn’t require engines, with experts often reaching speeds swifter than many common automobiles on roads.
In her attempt, Mills went from a standing start to over 60mph in less than three seconds.
After setting a new record, Heather expressed her joy by saying: ‘I’m thrilled to have been included in the book at last!’
