In a groundbreaking move, Trans What You Will is set to premiere its inaugural performance, featuring a staged reading of the classic play “Twelfth Night” entirely helmed and performed by transgender and non-binary artists.
On the 25th of July, a special one-time performance, led by director Phoebe Kemp, is set to take place at The Space Theatre in London. This event will kick off with Sir Ian McKellen and can be watched live from anywhere around the world.
One of Shakespeare’s most versatile comedies, “Twelfth Night,” revolves around Viola, who finds herself stranded on the shores of Illyria following a shipwreck that separates her from her twin sibling.
In a clever ruse, Viola assumes the identity of a man named Cesario to gain employment under Duke Orsino. Amidst this charade, she develops feelings for the Duke, who himself is smitten with Countess Olivia. Unbeknownst to her, Olivia becomes infatuated with ‘Cesario’, blissfully unaware that he is actually a woman in disguise. This situation leads to a series of amusing complications.
Kemp remarked that “Twelfth Night” seems as if it was penned by Shakespeare specifically for our modern times, given its exploration of gender roles and theatricality.

This text revolves around themes of joy, unity, and demonstrating potential when transgender and non-binary artists take center stage in narratives.
A representative from Trans What You Will stated that the play “Twelfth Night” has for centuries delved into the intricacies of personal identity, featuring misunderstood identities, cross-dressing, and affectionate expressions of love as characters navigate shifting gender roles.
This creation clearly portrays queer themes, drawing inspiration from the real-life journeys of transgender and nonbinary performers, thereby empowering their narratives.
The earnings generated from the manufacturing process will be given to Not a Phase, a charitable organization based in the United Kingdom, which dedicates its efforts towards enhancing and bettering the lives of adult members within the trans+ community.

It was disclosed last year that Sir Ian McKellen’s character Gandalf will be seen in upcoming “Lord of the Rings” films, including “The Hunt for Gollum” and an as-yet-unnamed production.
McKellen recently learned that additional movies are planned, with Gandalf being a part of them, and they’re hoping he’ll portray the character.
“When? I don’t know. What the script is? It’s not written yet. So they better be quick!”
