Sir Elton John says he treated lovers ‘like hostages’ at the height of his crippling drug addiction – and knew he’d ‘fallen down the scale of humanity’ after ’embarrassing’ incident in rehab

As I delve into the captivating tale of Sir Elton John, I am struck by the profound resilience and unwavering spirit that has defined his life. From his humble beginnings to his meteoric rise as a music icon, Elton’s journey is nothing short of extraordinary.

In simpler terms, Sir Elton John admits that he had been insensitive towards past partners, acting selfishly and poorly, which is a harsh way of putting it. Moreover, due to his struggles with addiction, he couldn’t manage basic household tasks like using appliances until he was quite old – around his forties.

A well-known musician who recently disclosed his impending blindness shared some surprising revelations about his private life in a recent conversation with TIME magazine.

In the 1970s and ’80s, during his time of great fame, Sir Elton, now 77 years old, openly talks about his struggle with a destructive addiction to alcohol and cocaine. He acknowledges that many people suffered, including some of his former partners, before he finally sought rehabilitation in the ’90s.

He said you often make poor choices regarding drugs. Desperate for love, I found myself resorting to taking hostages instead.

In my experience, if I connected with someone I admired, we would spend around three to four months together. However, the relationship would often deteriorate as they began to feel bitter towards me due to the fact that they lacked other aspects or interests in their life beyond our connection.

‘It really upsets me, thinking back on how many people I probably hurt.’

1990 found me, Sir Elton, admitted as an in-patient at Lutheran General Hospital in Chicago. For a span of six weeks, I underwent treatment to overcome my struggles with substance abuse – drugs, alcohol, and food.

The experience would be sobering for more than one reason, with the British star humbled by own inability to use basic domestic appliances.

He expressed that it was unexpectedly humbling to realize how much he had slipped on the human scale. It was the most mortifying moment of his life when, during therapy, he discovered he couldn’t operate a washing machine.

At the age of 43, if you find it challenging to operate a washing machine, it suggests that there may be some areas in your life where improvement is needed. This isn’t meant to be judgmental or derogatory, but rather an observation that might encourage personal growth.

After entering recovery and adopting a 12-step program centered on abstinence, Sir Elton John too faced the challenge of addressing his personal flaws.

He acknowledged that it can be difficult to convey when someone is behaving poorly and equally hard to receive such feedback, but ultimately, he decided to acknowledge his own shortcomings and admit that he was being rude or insensitive.

For over three decades now, I – a devoted admirer and witness to this extraordinary journey – have marveled at the resilience of this music icon who has managed to stay clean and sober. He attributes his longevity not just to personal strength, but to a higher power that he believes has been guiding him throughout his life. This benefactor, in his eyes, was instrumental in helping him conquer his past struggles.

‘I don’t really believe in the biblical God too much, but I have faith,’ he explained.

Throughout my journey, it feels as though a guiding force has been watching over me, steadfast and unwavering. This guardian has steered me clear of the clutches of drugs, pulled me out of the depths of depression, alleviated my feelings of loneliness, and most significantly, helped me find sobriety.

‘He’s been there all the time, I think. I just didn’t acknowledge him.’

Previously, Sir Elton openly admitted in an interview in 2021 that he later regretted his initial encounter with a row of cocaine.

He admitted to Ladbible that he participated casually, but it quickly turned into a compulsion, consuming nearly two decades of his life.

On Wednesday, Sir Elton John made an appearance on Good Morning America, where he was joined by his spouse David Furnish for a candid conversation with Robin Roberts. During this talk, they discussed various aspects of his life, career, and the intimate struggles depicted in his latest documentary.

He shared that he has been blind in his right eye since July, due to an infection he contracted in the South of France. It’s already been four months since then, and he hasn’t regained any sight.

Additionally, my left eye isn’t perfect, but there’s optimism and motivation that it will improve. We’re actively working on finding ways to enhance its condition.

‘At the moment that’s really what we’re concentrating on.’

As a lifestyle aficionado, I’d like to assure my cherished followers that David and I prioritize our well-being above all else. Every half a year, we undergo comprehensive health checks in sunny Los Angeles. Rest assured, our health is thriving more than ever before.

“It’s always unfortunate when incidents like this occur, as I am completely unable to perceive, read or watch anything.

The hitmaker, who played his final shows last summer, revealed his eyesight issues in September.

As a devoted admirer, I find myself on a painstakingly arduous journey towards recovery. The healing progress is agonizingly sluggish, with the prospect of regaining vision in my affected eye seeming a distant dream that will require considerable time and patience to materialize.

I’m deeply appreciative of the exceptional medical staff, including doctors and nurses, as well as my family, who have provided me with outstanding care during the past few weeks.

Over the summer, I’ve been taking it easy at home, focusing on my recovery. I’m quite optimistic about the advancements I’ve achieved in my healing process so far.

El artista conocido como “El Hombre del Cohete” informó a ABC News que debido a su infección en el ojo, no puede ver, leer ni ver nada. (Translation: The artist known as “Rocket Man” informed ABC News that due to his eye infection, he cannot see, read or watch anything.)

During a recent interview with a U.S. news channel regarding his new documentary “Never Too Late,” Elton John confessed that he had doubts about his capability to create new music due to his prioritizing of his health.

He mentioned that it has been some time since he last engaged in any activity, adding that he needs to shake off his lethargy. Unfortunately, he suffered an infection in his right eye in July while in the south of France, which led to a loss of sight in that eye.

It’s been four months since I lost my sight, with my left eye being particularly problematic. There’s optimism that things will improve, but for now, I find myself in a challenging situation.

Since I have the ability to perform tasks similar to this, however, when it comes to entering a studio and recording, I’m unsure, as I can’t visualize a lyric right off the bat.

Currently, our focus is primarily on making improvements. At this point in time, that’s where all our efforts are directed.
